Show i I ' J - THE SALT LAKE TIMES: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 10, 1691. 3 THE STEWART M). 1. THE OLD COLD MILL TRANSFORMED INTO A CONCENTRATOR, And U Working Successfully The Weekly Mining Summary Sinking the Shaft on the Roaring Lion Tintic Notes from the Miner Local and General. The Stewart No. 1 mill at Bingham, which was built to work the gold ore3 of that mine, has been changed into a concentrator by the addition of five jijjs, the crushing being done by the Huntington rolls. "With this slight change, the mill is doing some successful concentration on ore from the Peabody lead reins, which lie east of the veins of free milling gold quartz on the Stewart property. The present output of concentrates is about fifteen tons a day. Weekly Mining Summary. The most important event in mining circles this week has been the annual elec-tion of officers of the Horn Silver mine, which took place at Frisco on Tuesday. There was no contest whatever, A. C. Washington coming on from New York bearing proxies for more than 350,000 out of a total of 400.000 shares, and with these the old board of directors was There have been two important discoveries reported during the week. One of them is on the 700-fo- level of the Bullion-Bec- k and the other on 6t. Elmo mine in Argonaut gulch. a All of the smelters report that more ore is being offered them than they can handle and that they are assured thai there will be no dimunition in the receipts for the remain-der of the year. At the fair there has been a mining exhibit which has attracted much attention. While the display gave a fairly good idea of the mining resources of the territory, it was neither so large in the amount of the ore nor in the number of mines and districts represented as was expected. All excitement in La Plata district has subsided; a few of the mines are work-- - ing, and two of them the La Plata and the Sundown are making regular shipments, the ore from the latter netting S40 a ton over smelting and transportation charges. The ore and bullion shipments out of the city for the week ending October S, have been as follows: Silver and lead bullion, 291 tons; lead bullion, t3 tons; copper matte, 09 tons; and silver and lead ore, istiO tons. The Ontario product for the week has been 21,r577.97, all of which has been from the gale of ore. The Daly product has been $?S43.40 in ore eales. Two small shipments have been received from Fish Springs and teams have been sent to Dujrway to bring in a shipment of ore from that mine. The Horn Silver is outputting about its Usual amount of ore. On the niiriinj exchange business has been suspended on account of the fair, Ger-man daj-- , races, etc. The receipts of ore and bullion by thft banks of the city for the week ending Octo-ber 9 have been as follows: , T. Rice, the superintendent of the loarin Lion, has resumed the sinking of uc shaft on that property from its present depth of 100 feet. Mr. Rice says the Royr-'in- - Lion is the most fascinating mine he t ever winked. It has one of the. largest 'veins of any property iu Park City, and every foot of it is mineralized. The ore found up to this time has been in pockets, but it is all of high grade, netting over $100, to the ton. Local and General.
