Show I DEATH SUMMONS. ; BISHOP II DYKE Rheumatism of Heart Causes Death of Well-known Ogden Og-den Citizen. Special to The Tribune. OODKV, May 22. Bishop William D. Van Dyke. Jr.. of the Third ward, former for-mer city auditor, died suddenly at his home. 340 Twentieth street, at 6 o'clock this morning, following a brief illness of rheumatism of the heart. The announcement announce-ment of his death was not only a' sreat shook to the members of the Third ward, hut also to the members of the Mormon church throughout th city, for the rea- pom that Mr. Van Dyke was one of the most popular officials of the tri-stake territory ter-ritory of We her county. Although he had suffered an attack of A stomnch trouble about one year ago, Bishop Van Dyke had greatly improved r- in health since that lime and was on li duty at the Security Trust & Savings' bank as usual Thursday morning. About pt 1 1 o'clock yesterday morning he was f taken ill and decided to remain at home during the afternoon. He seemed to re-- re-- rover streng-th and rested well" during the night, but at 5 o'clock this morning he complained of an attack of suffocation. After partly recovering from this feel-j feel-j ing of Puff oca t ion he walked to the r kitchen for a drink of water. He was lying on the bed talking to his wife and mother when lie passed away at 6 :10 o'clock. Mr. Van Dyke was horn in this city on August IT, 1S9. being 31 years F old. With the exception of two years spent in Mormon church missionary work, he had spent his entire life in Ogden. Following bis graduation from the commercial com-mercial department of the Weber academy acad-emy in the early '90s, Mr. Van Dyke was employed as a telegrapher for the Den- ver & Rio Grande railroad and later wojked in the stores department of the 3 Southern Pacific company. In 1P07 he a was called to the eastern! states mission field of the Mormon church, where he labored until 1901). On January 1. 1911. i he succeeded Carl E. Peterson as bishop r of the Third ward. t Prior to his election as city auditor upon the Inauguration of the commission form of city government in Ogden. Mr. Van Dyke had served as deputy county clerk and also as deputy city auditor. He was succeeded as city auditor by 1 Arthur F. Larson and three months later 11 r. Van Dyke accepted the position of assistant cashier of the Security Trust ; & Savings banks, which position he held -i at the time of his deati. rj Mr. Van Dyke was united in marriage : to Leila V. Bingham in 1900, and one son. ' Derrah, was born. The wife died in 1906. j His second marriage, to Julia Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Ander-t Ander-t son. took place in 1912. and the widow j and one son survive him. Besides the widow and to sons, Mr. Van Dvke is ,J survived by the parents, Mr. and Mrs William Van Dyke. Sr. ; three brothers, .! Twrence A.. Ellis N. and Leslie H. Van ! Dyke, and one sister. Miss Verna Van t Dyke. The funeral will be held next Sundav with services in the Ogden tabernacle at 12 o'clock noon.
