Show i THE GREAT EISTEDDFOD of Butte Will Give a J H Leyson Magnificent Medal The publicity given of the generous of donation made by Mr J H Leyson magnificent medal to Butte city of a the successful conductor of the grand chorus contest at the forthcoming stir a created quite Eisteddfod has < been eclipsed by the but this has since generosity in a let gentlemans same ter sent Mr George Bywater sr of this city Mr Leysoa now states that the medal shall be a very costly one and its value shall be between 400 and 500 This has helped considerably to stimulate the competing choruses and while doping that l the prize may be retained in our midst yet the fact that Denvers chorus and also that of Ogden Og-den will compete in this class will necessarily ne-cessarily make the margin a very narrow one in the > event of the success suc-cess of either of the Salt Lake choirs Mr Leysons interesting letter is herewith here-with given Butte City Mont Sept 12 1895 My Dear Mr Bywater Mr R J Thomas acted upon your suggestion and requested me to donate a badge for the Eisteddfod I replied > to him at once telling him that I would furnish fur-nish a medal that should cost between 200 and 300 To start the work I have just selected a single stone diamond dia-mond that is worth a trifle over 200 and very likely the badge when done will represent from 400 to 500 I want to make this worthy jof the occasion to stimulate ian interest in the Eisteddfod Eistedd-fod as I regard Its good Influence as far reaching and 4ts aims to educate to nobler views and aspirations Jn life The warm place I ibiJKe in my heart J t for my Utah friends adds to my pleasure pleas-ure in making this offering and shall be glad if you can make any further use of me to tributeto the successful success-ful issue of your undertaking If your committee sees fit to make any other use of the badge than I have accepted ydu rare quite at liberty to devote it to any other prize If you advertise this as mentioned in your prospectus you may call it The J H Leyson Company Prize The badge will be sent to our Salt Lake house for exhibition ex-hibition when done You Can see Mr Thomas and tell him that the trophy will be much more valuable than I wrote him I shall take pains to ad vertfise the Eisteddfod and try and getup get-up an excursion party from here Sin I cerely yours j H LEYSON |
