Young performed solo, using a variety of acoustics instruments. A circle of five guitars was surrounded by an organ and two pianos, and around his neck rested his trademark harmonica Youngs current solo tour is one of the few times in recent years that he has performed without his famous jack up band Crazy Horse. With the absence of Crazy Horse, most of the songs Young played were from his earlier acoustical albums. The crowd consisted of Neil Young fans as diverse as the performers music. College students sat beside Really Love. Youngs protest song Don't Let It Bring You Down was just as relevant to the crowd in 1992 as it was when he first sang it in 1970, crying for a change in the way people live. Young played two tracks off the album on the piano, the country western ballad Cripple Creek Ferry, and the delicate Only Love Can Break Your Heart. He finished the evening with the title track, which he played on the organ to his own harmonica accompaniment It left the crowd speechless as Young wailed out Weve got mother nature on the run in the 20th century. Possibly most Youngs popular album, 1972s Harvest received far less attention. Only the standard Heart Of Gold and the drug anthem The Needle and the Damage Done woe played. Such Young classics as Old Man and Alabama were overlooked in the Woodstock leftovers, and children sat beside Easy Rider extras. (Please be specific) Thank You for your Time Please return to ASWC Forgettable Captain Ron is amusing diversion by Kimberly McKinnon Forum stiff writer In Captain Ron, Martin Short plays a man in search of an adventure, while Kurt Russell plays the captain of his adventure. Surprisingly, the movie is better than it the ad clips you may have seen. Short plays Martin Harvey, a corporate executive caught in a life without spontaneity. When his uncle dies, leaving him a ; sailboat, Martin sees the chance for a temporary escape from his dull life. His wife Page 8 forum (Mary Kay Place) and children (Meadow Sisto and Benjamin Salisbury) grudgingly accept Martins plan for the family to steer the new boat to Florida. Arriving in the Caribbean, the family hooks up with Captain Ron (Russell), a g, but ship captaini The family's anxiety increases as they realize the condition of the boat and the less than stellar qualifications of Captain Ron. Captain Ron abounds with stereotypes and cliches. From the y teenage daughter to some Latin American revolu September 29, 1992 fun-lovin- al boy-craz- tionaries, the characters do not surprise but rather predictably glide through the story. In addition, the entire plot is weak and the end of the film is simply silly. Come on, who would really go cruising around the Caribbean with a questionable captain in a questionable boat? But, for all that, Captain Ron is still entertaining. Sometimes it is pleasant to see a movie that does not have random violence and graphic sex. Kurt Russell and Martin Short seem to have fun with the movie, and it is good to see the two talented actors paired together. The absurd Captain Ron is a change for Russell, while the subdued Martin Harvey is a change for Short. Captain Ron will not win any awards, it is a sitcom movie that deserves a sitcom price. Rent it when it comes out on video, or go see it when it comes to the dollar movies. Although Captain Ron is an amusing diversion, it is an extremely forgettable film. |
