Show CAMPUS CRIER PAGE 4 SNOWED AGAIN Montana Trip the When anyone asks about, weather here at Westminster College on Jan. 14, all they get for an answer is that is Snowed. The Badgers from Ephraim, with student body en masse, moved into Paynes Gymnasium and with a brilliant display of basketball wizardry downed a scrappy Westminster quintet 8. Sparked by Hal Hatch, a football player of no mere reputation, Snow moved into a lead which, although narrowed to 2 or 3 points at times, was never relinquished. Hatch was ably supported by the workhorse efforts of Eric Cunningham, a rebounder with few peers. Cunningham swept both bank boards arid added 10 poitnsto the cause, wdiile setting up play after play for his mates. The Parsons, paced by Brown, Zogg, and Richardson, gave Snow a tussle and a half for the first period when they left the floor with only two points on the deficit side of the ledger. The second half proved disastrous, 49-3- although Westminster scrapped to the filial gun, they couldnt keep pace with the of Snows fast' outfit. breaking and, sharp-shooti- ng The type of game Atkinson Coach employed by the first for had Snow baffled in the factor half and was a big made by his respectable score, ball-contr- ol boys. TERPSIE ' After successfully opening their season with three straight wins, Westminster's Parsons embarked on a week-lon- g jaunt Idaho and Montana. through The trip turned out to be rather an unsuccessful one, for the team was only able to salvage one victory out of four starts. The boys dropped two to Ricks College of Rexburg, Ida., and one to Montana Statex Normal College at Dillon, Mont. Their lone victory was over the Bulldogs of Montana State Normal. The games at Rexburg were played on unfamiliar grounds, the floor being narrower and shorter than the one they were used to. The score of the first game was 61 to 44 for Ricks. This game found the Rexburg-ite- s very warm at the hoop. ,G. Dalhing was high for Ricks with 17 points. Richardson was high for the Parsons with 11. In the second game the cagers of Ricks returned and took up where they left off the night before, the final score being 72 to 59. G. Dalhing again was high man for Ricks fanning the net for 19 points that evening. Brownie found his eye again and powdered the hoop for 18 counters. The different type of officiating in the two areas was noticeable. The game in Idaho is called much more loosely than in Salt Lake. The trip to Dillon was a little In the first more successful. the Bulldogs just game nights couldnt be stopped. They wanted to avenge two previous defeats suffered at the hands of the Parsons and they set about to do the same. The final score was 59 to 46. Bill Zogg had his hoker working to perfection and scored 12 points, Brownie was second with' 10. McMahon scored 22 for high honors of both Montana and the game. The second nights game was a different story which found the Parsons rebounding back up the ladder of victory. The won this game to the tune of 51 to 34. Brownie and Zogg were high with 16 points apiece. McMahon was held to three points by some good defensive play by the We&t-minsterit- ELLIS in one of her classes turned to her neighbor and said in Greek, That teacher looks like a good egg. INTRAMURALS GRAB es SPOTLIGHT i In the neit week or two dont be surprised if our. campus takes on the appearance of a wartime canvalescent hospital. Intramural casaba season has arrived. To give you an idea of what can be expected when the courageous, if not somewhat foolhardy, gents of the school don their basketball togs, heres a list- - of the participating squads. They are: Bentons Bums, Carbon County Swedes, City Slickers, Triple Deck Dandies, Magna Maulers and the Fearless Faculty. The first weeks results were: Jr. Varsity (playing for Magna) 28, City Slickers 23. Faculty 22, Carbon Courity Swedes 19. Bentons Bums 28, Triple Deck Dandies 17. Undoubtedly, the upset of the first, round was the Faculty's surprise" win over the Swedes. For several days prior to the game the learned gents were crying the blues over the loss of Mr. Bradley. This 6 ft., 9 in., chunk of scoring dynamite was sidelined with an injured ankle. However, the profs took the floor in a winning frame of mind; and win they did, 22 to 19, over the Scandinavian miners. Fade Away Farley, Pete Atkinson and Hypnosis Thomas swept the Swedes off their feet and made numerous shots that would make Vern Gardner and Alex Groza wonder if they had missed their calling. This writer shudders to think of what could happen to the students if the Faculty is as tough during exam week as they were on the waxed court Wednesday night. Hang on to your Stetsons, kiddies. We may be heading for some rough academic experience before the semester ends. Yes, folks, Wednesday evenings will find Payne gym bubbling over with excitement and laughs. Youll be missing a hilarious evening if youre not on hand for these games.
