Show 1 Page 8 Frosh Enter Four Teams 1 . . . Intramurals Well Under Way DEC. 6 - S WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, DEC. 7 The Intramural Basketball Season for 1961-6got under way on Wednesday night, December 6. Three games were played. The Freshmen were . the underdogs in all three On Thursday night, Dec. 7. the second round of Intra- 2 i games. The Faculty had little trouble with the Freshmen No. 2 team, defeating them by a score of 69 to 12. Max .Waddoups was high point man for the Faculty wth 33 points. Johnson had 6 to be high for the Freshmen. The Seniors coasted to a 102 to 12 victory over the Frosh No. 3. Lannie Peterson and Tuck Hubbard were high for the Seniors, both scoring 22 points. i The third game of the evening between the Juniors and the Freshmen No. 4 was a better game than the previous games. The Juniors led most of the way. up until the end of the third period in whch the score was tied The fourth quarter was a .battle with the rs-coming out on top Jerry Adams was high for the winners with 18 points, while Balderson was high for the losers with 17. 1 The Seniors won their second game of the season by the Frosh No. .1 Terry Hunter, with his 18 points, was high for the Seniors, and Lester Moore was high with 9 for the Frosh No. 1. out-scorin- high for the Juniors with 9 points. Ifrosh : ' The Freshman No. 3 team was defeated for the second time by. the Sophomore No. 6 team 45 to 31. The Frosh No 3 gave the Sophomore No. 6 trouble in the first three quarters,. but the Sophomores didnt let this bother them in the fourth quarter: and The went on to win No. to 6 had play Sophomore the last four minutes of the fourth quarter with four men, when Wayne Murray fouled out, and the Sophomores didnt have any more players on the bench. Wayne Murray and : Dennis Helgesen both had 14 points to be high for the Sophomore No. 6. Bod Grunwald of the ' losers also had 14. .The Frosh No. 4 team, led by the accurate shooting of Jerry Barron and Dick' Balderson, had little trouble in defeating the Sopho--more- No. 5 team The Freshmen took the lead early in the first period and were never threatened by the Sophomores The Sophomores kept trying right to the end but couldnt over-- 1 come the lead held by the Frosh. Hansen and Williams of the Sophomore team were tied for high, both having 6 points. Jerry Barron and Dick Balderson scored . 42 of the 69 points that the Frosh had. Each had 21 points to his credit. . The. Juniors went down to defeat to the powerful Faculty by a score of 66 to 39. The Juniors, having a cold night from, the' field, couldnt put the ball: through the hoop. Bob Losser with ' 24 points was high' for the Faculty.
