Neighborhood eats Food and drink aplenty in Sugarhouse Lindsay Kavanagh Staff Writer The start of the school year means many things, from seeing friends to getting back into a routine with homework- - It can also mean questionable cafeteria food that can get a little redundant after the first three weeks. Sure, if you get creative its not too terrible, but many students regret the fact that Westminster only offers us one option when it comes to places to use a meal plan. . There are a great number of local businesses in the Sugar House area that cater to students needs. Many of them have very reasonably priced items, from a cup of coffee to a slice of pizza or bowl of Italian ice cream. FIDDLER'S ELBOW Located behind Salt Lake Pizza and Pasta is the Fiddlers Elbow, a fun sports bar for anyone over 21. According to its website, it offers 32 beers on tap as well as a large assortment of comfort food such as meatloaf and chicken fried steak. If youre in the mood for lighter fare you can have a salad or pasta, or just get a bowl of nachos to enjoy while watching your favorite sports team. SUGAR HOUSE COFFEE THE SOUP KITCHEN One of these places, perhaps the most familiar haunt to Westminster students, is Sugar House Coffee. Located at 2106 Highland Drive, it is a short walk for any student on campus. This shop is open and friendly, with Another location to get a meal for a low cost that is only a quick walk from campus is The Soup Kitchen, where you can still get a meal for under $7. The small shop is on 2012 South 1100 East. All of the menu items are written on a large chalkboard over the counter where you order, and all soups and sandwiches are made daily. I am a big fan, said Sarah Pike, a Westminster junior. Its a great local place to eat and they have the best tomato soup. The people are always really friendly too. And I love how close it is to campus; you can walk to lunch anytime without having to deal with traffic. It also stays open late, makcomfy chairs and Wi-F- i. ing it the perfect place for a late night meeting with friends. This coffee shop offers a traditional assortment of coffees and teas, Spotted Dog ice cream, and baked goods such as bagels and coffee cake. This is a great place to sit and catch up on reading after a long day of classes. Sugar House Coffee also offers a vegan option on most drinks. SALT LAKE PIZZA AND PASTA DOLCETTI GELATO Two doors up from Sugar House coffee is Salt Lake Pizza and Pasta. The restaurant really gives you a small town feeling, with friendly wait staff and good service. It has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere, said Westminster student Katherine Moreno. This small shop is located at 1751 South 1100 East, a short walk from The Soup Kitchen, and serves Italian gelato made from all natural and local ingredients.
