They also include Coach Doug Oliver of Idaho State and Head Coach Gary Turcott of Carroll College. For Tommy Connor, recently appointed head men's basketball coach at Westminster College, these personal references offer a small glimpse into the effort he will put mto the challenges of resurrecting the Westminster College basketball program. In fact, effort will be a key action for Connor as he attempts to assemble and prepare an entirely new team for competition, scheduled to begin in the 19992000 school year. "The most important thing is to find 12 to 15 student athletes who are committed to coming and receiving an education and still want to play basketball," said Connor, "that's a big challenge because I'm starting with zero. I have nothing." 1 Residents Move Into Newly Built Hall by Tiffany Barber Forum staff writer Westminster students moved into the newly constructed residence hall on Ninety-eig- Sept. 3. ht The week before school began, students were informed that Residence Hall 3 would not be completed as scheduled. Students were moved into the Olympus Best Western Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City for days while construction was completed. Some of the accommodations at the hotel included storage, continental breakfast, shuttle service to and from the hotel and maid service. The cost was shared by Tingey Construction and Westminster 10 College. When students moved in, there were still a few problems to be solved. Some apartments did not have working doorbells, while Connor comes to Westminster College with a long history in the game of basketball. "I was born the son of a coach, a basketball coach. It was just the family deal," he says. "It's a lineage. I was bom into it." Connor explains that his father coached the game for almost 40 years, coaching all over Idaho, including Boise State and Albertsons College. Of course that isn't Connor's only tie to the game. From 1985 to 1990 Connor played point guard for the University of Utah under coaches Lynn Archibald and Rick Majerus. After receiving his B.S. in exercise and sports science, Connor served as a graduate assistant coach from 1990 to 1993 while obtaining an M.S. in exercise and sports science at the University of Utah. Most recently he served as the director of basketball operations for Champions Athletic Academy, an organization that focuses on teaching basketball skills to athletes across the country. .
