Show features Graduating Seniors Some Still Looking; Others Have Career Flans, Goals by Some students are still looking around. Others are more definite. Kristie Glad Bryon Bagnell is now looking for work. Graduating with a degree in air operations management, he said that he is in the process of talking to a number of people. But at this point he remains undecided. Approximately 315 students will be graduating from Westminster on Saturday May 30. According to Susan Heath, director of counsels ing and career services, about of those individuals already have plans as to what they will be doing with their degrees. three-fourth- Michelle Maxwell has recently received a mmME position as a registered nurse at the University of Utah Medical Center. This is something that she has been wanting to do for a long time. I wanted to be a nurse since I was two years old, and Ive wanted to work for the U of U Med Center for the past three years, said be involved in volunteer work. Michel will be working in Africa with a deaf school and then as a volunteer worker with the elderly. Michel said of her decision to work as a volunteer, I think there is a need for it and I enjoy working with people. Besides, I cant imagine what I Maxwell. would do if I wasnt busy. is with her finished When Shirley Michel According to Heath, less than 10 percent of Bachelors of Science in sociology, she plans to the '87 graduates will be going on to graduate school. Among these few are Angie Russell and Jennie Wyckoff. Wyckoff has been going to school part time since 1980, and has recently made application to get a Masters degree in social work at the U of U. Russell who will have a degree in math " and physics will be starting at the U of U graduate school in instrumental physics. This was a decision that Russell made her junior year, but she completed the application process in full-tim- e February. Heath stated that there are some characteristics that distinguish those seniors that are well on their way to achieving their career u According to Heath , less than 10 percent of the '87 graduates will be going on to graduate take advantage of another Opportunity ' school . These students tend to be more goal oriented, they plan ahead, they have work experience, and they are trying their ideas out, said Heath. Heath also pointed out that the majors in which seniors seem most successful in getting jobs are in nursing, education, and business fields. She believes these majors are particularly promising because they are strong programs and there is a strong demand for Westminster graduates in these areas. For seniors that still need help deciding what to do after graduation, Heath recommends that they contact the career service office. The office would be happy to help a graduating senior with resume and interviewing skills, job listings, initial contacts, and opportunities to talk to other Westminster graduates who have positions with companies that may be interested in them. goals.
