The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. "Jack" Turner of Kearns. She is a graduate of Kearns high where she was a cheerleader for two years and is now attending the Brigham that second of time I knew he saw his buddies in the trenches of World War again I. There were several parades here last Monday, all alive with bugles, flags, prancing horses and pretty girls. But, all the same . . . I saw men in their 60s stand straight, with hands over their hearts. Their smiles suddenly gone. All attention, with serious mein and I knew they were remembering Pearl Harbor, the Bataan Death March, Corregidor, the beaches of Anzio, Guadalcanal, the Battle of the Bulge and the Coral Sea. though parades are similar, I saw something different. Something I had never even thought of seeing. I saw the people who came to see The Parade. I saw faces, eyes, and stances that were not meant for anyone to see. But I Yes, saw. For background, Murray City asked me (can you imagine?) to be Grand Marshall of their Fun Day Parade, and after I realized City Attorney Craig Hall was not joking, I began to realize what an honor had been offered. Yes, Smiling, waving calling my name and making me laugh with surprise and joy. I saw goggle-eyechildren. Awed to see the lovely white carriage (Carriages for Hire) upholstered with blue velvet that I rode in with my grandchildren Michael, Eric and Rachael I saw young men too old to laugh and cavort as they had a few years ago as children; too young to feel anything but embarassment over what their fathers and grandfathers were to put their hands revealing; too over their hearts; and so they cuffed each other and scuffled away that emotional moment. d I saw stars in many a little girls eyes, and knew each was dreaming and hoping that she would someday ride in such a fairy, carriage, I saw a different parade than you saw. The newlyweds will honeymoon in Colorado and then make their . Children waved and, yes, many people called my name (blessings upon their heads) and I thank the Mayor, Craig, Marie and Diane and all others forgiving me such a jewel of a day. too. I saw a bent, crippled elderly gentleman rise from his chair, assisted by a cane and (I suppose) his son. I watched with respect when, Salt Lake LDS Temple. They will greet guests that evening at a reception at the Seven Oaks reception center. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Healey of West Valley City. She is a graduate of Granger high and also Dixie College where she was president of the Rebelettes. She is employed by Eastern Airlines and plans to attend Weber State this fall. EAGLE SCOUTS Pre-nupti- Verl And Phyllis Buxton Reach Fiftieth Anniversary Aaron West Aaron West, son of David and Darlene West, of West Valley, he recently attained the rank cf Mark Lee Jackman Mark Lee Jackman, son of Howard and Barbara Jackman of Kearns, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Mark is a member of Team No. 6899 of the Western Hills 4th LDS ward, with Jim Brown as his team coach. He has earned 21 merit badges and for his service project he built stairs for the stage in the Western Hills 4th ward cultural hall. . His grandparents are Ruby and Ralph Jackman, Salt Lake, and Ray and Lila Mills of Murray. Mark is a graduate of Kearns high, was a member of Kearns LDS Seminary Council, assistant varsity team coach, and is now 2nd councilor of Western Hills 4th ward elders quorum. Chad Rytting Chad Rytting, son of Colby and Jan Rytting of Salt Lake, has Eagle Scout. He is a member of Troop No. 441 of the Academy Park 1st ward, with Deleane Jessop as his scoutmaster. attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Best man duties were performed by Steve Shrader and the ushers were Jerry Young and John Turner. They hadnt the unquestioning pride of the oldest Vet, or the honor felt by the WWII men, but something came from them and I saw that in spite of bitterness and pain, that was their flag. He is a graduate of Pleasant Grove high, is also attending the BYU and has filled an LDS mission to Montevideo, There were bearded faces of men in their 40s and 50s. Some stood, some remained seated, but under their thick eyebrows and beards were faces and eyes that were seeing Korea, the DMZ, Naam, and smelling Agent Orange again. Mayor McMillan, Parade Chairman Craig Hall, Diane Gee and Marie Venderheyden, (and I know there were many more) all had their fingers in the pie to organize the event, and though I thank them deeply for my part, I shall not write of them, or the floats. Verl worked for the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad for 27 years and another 16 years for the Granite School District, retiring in 1982. He epjoys building, camping and motorcycling. Phyllis enjoys camping, making crafts and working in her home. They both love to travel. Verl and Phyllis are the parents of two daughters and one son: Shirlene (Mrs. LaVar) Weight, Taylorsville; Phyllis (Mrs. Joe) Hurskainen, Bennion and Verl Buxton, Jr. of Kearns.
