Show 2B THE GREEN SHEET Thursday, July 2, 1987 Truman, Vista, Taylorsville - Band Students Tuning Up For Summer Concert TAYLORSVILLE Parents and friends of 250 students from three schools involved in the summer music program are being invited to a concert to be presented today (Thursday) at 9 a m at Taylorsville high Its a busy season for teacher John Turner, who is conducting classes at Truman, Taylorsville and Vista elementary schools I have 17 classes daily, running from 7 30 in the morning until 4 30 in the afternoon It keeps me busy alright, but I enjoy it, he said The students, enrolled in beginnand advanced ing, intermediate band and orchestra, are enjoying the summer program said Turner I feel the summer program is necessary to music students to keep them going, rather than letting them put their instruments away for three months during which they forget all they have learned, he said My students can make a half-yea- r progress during the summer, he remarked, because they have class every day not just twice weekly as during the school year The relaxed atmosphere of summer school also makes the program enjoyable for students and teacher, he said Students enjoy it more, and can advance day by day and actually see their own progress The students enjoy all kinds of music, said Turner Selections they are working on range from light classics to rock, with New York, New York, a top favorite r BOY DRUMMERS . . .
