The Sundance Wrestling Club and Cyprus high school cosponsored the USAW State Cadet Junior Open championships this past weekend. The top six Cadet wrestlers in each weight qualify for the Western s Regional to be held in New berg, Oregon June The top three Junior finishers in each weight, will be able to try out for the Utah team traveling to Iowa for the National City July Junior restling Championships. Placements in the State tournament were as follows: At 88 pounds, John Kelly, Sundance, was first, Jeff Mackelspring, third, and Brent Cotton, Sundance, fourth Rand Adams, Brighton, was first at 94 5 pounds. Scott Preece, Sundance, was third, and Nathan DeHerrera, Region One, sixth. At 103 5 pounds, Lonnie Kendall, Region One, was second and Tim Wren, Cyprus, third. In the 112 pound class, Dean Moody, Sundance w as ssecond Greg Carrell, Cottonwood, was lust at 121, while Scott McKnight, independent, was second and Adam W alker, Tom Duke and Eric Barker, Sundance, were third, fifth and sixth In the 132 pound class, Chris and Make Carlson, Skudlaiczk Brighton, were first and second, Jason Raiidozzo, Sundance, fourth; and Sean McGiven, fifth. Brel Conrad was second at 143, Mike Blegg. Brighton, third, Kyle Vara, fourth, and John Nelson fifth. In the Cadet 154 class, John Marsh, Granger, was first, while at 167 Ciaig Blackburn was first and Kids-Cadet- 16-2- 14-1- 8 Arn Kniffen, Hillcrest, and Leon Oriarte tied for sixth. Casey Gunderson, Sundance, was first and Scott Lane second at 182.5 pounds. Dutch VanPatton, Brighton, was first and Troy Wehr, Cottonwood, third at heavyweight. Moving into the Junior Division, Ryan Maxwell, Brighton, was first and Rico Archuletta, Sundance, was second at 105.5 pounds. Wes Machan, Sundance, won at 114.5 with Dave Trujillo, Trujillo Wrestling, third. Ryan Lightfoot, Taylorsville, won at 132 followed by Ken Jensen, Brighton, second and Mike Searle, Sundance, third. John Gitlin, Sundance, was first at 143 with Greg Gonzales, Taylorsville, second; Aaron Trammell, third; Pete Palet-ta- , Brighton, fourth; Art Lopez, Cubs, fifth. Independent J.D. Coach Bill Siebenberg's Murray Spartans won three games last week, following up Mondays win over Ben Lomond win over Ben Lomond and with a then defeating Ogden on Friday, 13-- 4 16-- 4 The winning pitcher in the game Wednesday against Ben Lomond was Peter Young and on Friday Chad foirest pitched four innings on a no hit ball against the Ogden team with Doug Chapman then throwing one inning and Reggie Clark two. Peter Young was the big hitter for Murray in the Ogden game, slugging a homer over the left field wall and added a round tripper later in the game. He also had a double and connected for six runs batted in. Greg Anderson, junior outfielder also had a roundtripper and two other hits and drove in three runs for the game. Coach Siebenberg has been well satisfied with his team and was especially pleased that he has been able to play his entire roster.
