The Utah champion West Side team was eliminated from the tournament by Kearns Thursday after- win. noon. Kearns advanced to the finals and avenged an earlier 3 loss by beating Central California Thursday with and Ty Olsen, who pitched in relief, held the West Side team hitless. Olsen was named most 6-- 6 valuable player in the tournament. Despite not gaining any hits, West Side mounted a 0 lead after two innings on four walks and three errors. Kearns chipped away at the lead by scoring two in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the seventh. Tournament play will continue through Friday with three teams surviving to play Monday and Tuesday. The young, but strong, Granger pitching staff, of Darrin Steele, Gary Austin and Joe Bocek helped see the team through the playoff situation and Steele and Austin picked up the two tourney wins, leaving Granger in an enviable position last night with Bocek available. In Tuesdays 12-- 2 romp over Roosevelt, the Granger lads wore their hitting togs, pounding out a total of 11 hits in the affair. Granger was also playing well in the field Tuesday, committing no errors. Devin Higgins line shot over the wall in left highlighted the Granger attack. Higgins went 3x4 for the night. Kerry Foggarty had a double among his two hits and Mike Quigley hit safely twice.
