Show WEEKLY REFLEX DAVIS NEWS JOURNAL. AUGUST 17. Funny Incidents At BOB 1978' MticEiltii Tourney inoperations as results of inwhile sustained juries in football. First it was By DAVE WIGHAM By DAVE WIGHAM - While attending the BCI national basketball tournament in Provo last week several funny incidents stand out that 1 think are worth mentioning. FIRST thing which struck me as funny in a weird sense of the word, these people will get all over me for this, was the officials. Usually these men are in top notch physical condition, as far as running goes anyway. But like a lot of us the old body gets overlooked in the long summer months. This brand of basketball isnt exactly the basic slow down game, those teams were getting up and down the court in a hurry. Fast breaks were the in this tournament. TO ADD to the problem the officials had to double up on games. An official that worked the 10 a.m. game also stuck around and did the next one. Both officials had to officiate two games m a row. If you dont think their calf muscles were hurting by the conclusion of that second game, think again. Dee Burton of Layton and Mike Hall of Bountiful worked together the first day with Mike driving his car to Provo. Mike has a stick shift car which made things interesting. He was so tired he couldnt lift his foot to shift gears, he honestly had to pull the pant legs in order to get his legs to move. These two got smart toward the end of the tournament and went in Dees car which is an automatic. THE OTHER main point came about on Saturday, the final day, in the game between the Watts Magicians and Clmcor of N.Y. Both teams showed up with red shirts. This tournament is usually held at high schools because the NCAA thought a college running the affair would be a recruiting violation. Well, shortly after these teams discovered the same color,' the BYU head man handed out some scrimmage shirts with BYU basketball all over them. SEEING THIS a fan jokingly yelled out, Isnt that a recruiting violation. Things started happening, it was like a guy at an airport that says hijack. It was kinda funny too to see the Watts Magicians, an all black team, wearing the BYU stuff. The fans started to cheer for them and during a timeout the Watts teams got in a huddle and shouted lets go Cougars as they came LAST SPRING Scott was playing catch with some of his friends when he twisted his his knee then his nose was broken. left knee and pulled some cartilage which meant the Through it all though he has never once thought of not the playing football for Braves this coming season. operating table for him. Scott has come a long way since junior high school days though. When he first went to Bountiful as a sophomore he got involved in their weight program. At the time he was 6'1 and weighed around 160 pounds. After a year of the program he was up to 62 and 175 pounds, this increase got him excited enough to hit the weights hard this past year and the results are obvious on his 62 and 195 pound frame. HIS SPEED has also increased As a sophomore he was clocked in 5 0 second for the forty yard dash and he notes that before the knee injury he was around 4 85.
