What makes the game of golf so intriguing that it takes husbands away from their wives every weekend9 IT SEEMS funny that grown men could get a kick out of hitting a small white ball, then finding it again and again hitting it until he reaches a green with a hole in it somewhere, at which time he takes out a putter and tries to gently knock the ball into the hole. Name another sport that an individual could participate in where he could just walk up to two strangers and ask if he could play with and then by the end of nine holes have two more friends. A golfer can just go up to his course and join another twosome of golfers and play a round with them Friends are easily made on a golf Both SALT LAKE CITY local adult soccer teams got into their respective cup final games last Saturday but both of them lost tough games in the end. league with more speed on the ball but none with the control to match Kathy Catching is Randie Croshaw who is relatively new at the position but catching on fast, no pun intended FIRST BASE is currently held down by Iva Croshaw, at this writing she is at first, although by the time you read it she might not be Iva is overdue having a baby, but she hasnt missed a game thus far At second base is Paula Clever ly who is as fast as anyone in the league thar Reed and Richelle Welling hold down the left side of the infield with Char at he Rowdies actually held a lead with about 20 minutes to go in the contest only to see the Mexico team scoie three shortstop and Richelle at third Char has good range on course HONESTY IS such a big part of the game of golf. Even in the big tournaments the golfers are on their own ITiere isnt an official walking around with them checking on every shot and every score they put down on the score card The players are the people that mark their scores, they are the people who count out their shots. When a ball is lost or has a bad line no one runs up and makes sure that person doesnt move the ball or place down another ball if his original one is lost, the golfer himself is the man who must use his honesty. Golf is also one of the few sports around that you have anyone else but yourself to blame for either a good round or a bad round. The scores are all up to you, no one to lean on in times of trouble or no one else to congratulate in times of great scores. FOR INDIVIDUAL accomplishments, honesty and friendship in the game of golf is hard to beat. - and the Moms and Misses. THE COUNTY runs a program for leagues in A, B and C. By DAVE WIGHAM - KAYSVILLE This year marks the first year that the Davis area has entered a team in the Automotive League which plays their games in Salt Lake City. THE LEAGUE is sponsored by the Salt Lake County Recreation and is competition for the 15 and 16 year old boys. In the past the Kaysville youths have either had to play some Colt league baseball or they have just sat out a year waiting to play American Legion the following years. Coaching the Darts in 4-- leagues going on it would be easy to overlook the ladies, but there is a group of ladies from Bountiful that are currently undefeated in the Davis County program. THE BOBBY Soxers, is By DAVE WIGHAM 8 are a group BOUNTIFUL mens Jacks 10-Other catchy names include Ships Belles me End Season their first season is Henry Emery who is an avid sports fan for the Kaysville schools who also happens to have a son Jeff who is very much a part of athletics at the Davis school. Jeff is a pitcher and first baseman on the young club and he is one of the better players on the Davis team. ALSO PLAYING some first base for the Darts is Tage F lint who comes from a sports minded family. It seems like every year the last names are the same for Davis and only the first names change each time Second base is held down by either Glenn Arnell, another familiar Davis name, and Kelly Graves. Shortstop duties are handled by Rick Harris while lance Hill, the younger brother of Dart IN THE outfield the Kaysville crew look to three of the following players: Brent Hatch, Jeff Robinson, Eric Porter, Keith McNally, John Morley and Stan Olson can all play any of the fields. Olson also handles some of the catching chores along with Scott Smith and John Sved. Pit. hing is always a key in any baseball league and the Darts have five players who are scheduled for mound duty in the league. Gregg Taylor, Mike Kirkpatrick, Jeff Emery and Scott Smith all have thrown in league competition while Brent DeJong is also slated to throw but he has been unable to attend league games thus far. JIM KAISERMAN is also on the team but other commitments have made it impossible for him to play yet. Coach Emery indicated that the main purpose of playing m the league was to give these kids a chance to play against some good competition In the past they havent played against this type of quality players. THE DARTS are struggling at this point in league play but they are gaining confidence and getting some good competition which is bettering them in the long run.
