While most people have been talking about the Bountiful, Layin .d Roy clubs the Clearfield High football team has slowly and surely pulled themselves up even with the pack. the an WITH a new coach and a new system this year many fans thought this would be a learning year for the Falcons. Well, it may well have been that way. In their opening games the Clearfield team seemed unsure of themselves, not showing that confidence that has been a tradition of theirs for years. However, as the year and season has progressed this group of football players and coaches have been building up the confidence and the wins as opposed to the losses. THE BANQUET will be held on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., at the Layton Stake Center on 60 West Gordon Avenue in Lay-toAdmission will be $1.90 per person. You can obtain tickets at the Layton Recreation Office located in the Layton Municipal building. Consider this the Weber team has nothing to gain or lose in this game. All they can do is beat the best. If your club is going to finish low in the standings, as the Weber club will, then all they can hope for is a shot at beating the first place team like Bountiful. Weber has some talent, many observers feel that they have the best throwing quarterback in the region in Steve Trawick. In their loses this year it has been the ineffectiveness of their defense to get the offense the ball that has cost them. 444f FOR KAYSVILLE MAYOR ft 34 GOLDEN AVENUE LAYTON, UTAH AUCTION TO ft ft ft ft ft ft AIR IMPACT WRENCHES 38 12. 34. THIS proposal would be advantageous to Kaysville city as well as to them, as the city in the future will need a larger line running to Center Street established for spending LAST year the Darts won the 3A title, many observers felt that the likes of Pat Benton, and Bob Payne formed the best backfield in the school in quite a while. But this year the Ryan Hill, Keith Malnor, Mitch Keck and Matt Gregory outfit have been as good as any at the school. Argue if you want but their record speaks for itself. Their only two losses came in against the Bountiful and Layton big boys. The mayor asked if it was last week but like the true Mr. Cottrell proposed that they try to work this into their budge for the coming year and the council agreed to take it under advisement and give him an answer within 30 days. This week they meet a disappointed Ben Lomond team. The Scots lost their top player last summer but even then they caught fire early and won their first three region games. Too much talent for the Darts to lose this one, look for the Darts to go through the new Region Four undefeated. CQ3 CDS1 THE Weber team is strictly a passing club, they live and die by the pass. That puts a lot of pressure on the Braves defensive secondary led by linebackers Steve Toolson, John Hazen, Larry Hale, Kent Palmer along with backs Paul Jeff Anderson, Taylor, Waters and Scot Irwin. Bountifuls offensive will try to get going again this week against a fair Weber defense. The Warriors might, have the ability to score on the Braves but they dont( seem to have the power to' stop the Braves from scoring. But since that time they have only lost one other game, to Bountiful, but not without a fight, while knocking off the likes of Bonneville, Weber, Viewmont and Sky View. That sets them up for this weeks game with the Roy bunch. Both clubs enter the game with 2 region records, which also ties them for second place behind Layton and Bountiful. Keeping in mind that the top four teams qualify for state these two clubs are assured of going to the tournament. the pack and they would probably face a playoff that they wouldnt want. The Layton D played some of their best football last week when twice they held the potent Bountiful team on fourth, and short situations. In the final minutes the Lancers Bountiful as watched marched down the field to come up with a first and goal on the Lancer nine yard line. Three plays later the Braves had a fourth and goal on the one yard line. AT THIS point the likes of Wayne Kittrell, Ron Atkinson and Rick Snow decided the Braves had gone far enough and they simply stuffed the Bountiful running play and preserved the win. The Lancers scored in the first half but then their offense took the second half off, or so it seemed. Throughout the year the Lancer O has put points on the board early and not in the late going. Layton High, fresh off of their victory over Bountiful, must now take their act on the road up north to Cache Valley to battle the Sky View Bobcats this week. GAMES in the area were slated for Friday but many of them have moved them up so this game might have been played already. The Bobcats are also on the, upswing themselves as they took a victory at Weber last week to give them their first region win this year. The Bobcats have had injury problems all year and their coaches have had to make more adjustments in their offense than most coaches make in a lifetime. THE SKY View team has been especially tmigh at their own plaice this year. They lost to Bonneville, a club that took the Lancers into overtime, but only a 0 score so they are capable of playing some tough football in Cache G.G. Spehar from Fruit Heights met with the Kays-vill- e City Council with regards to the lights at Davis High tennis courts.
