Takes Easy XficforyFromRiclxsViEzings In games last week the Wildcats came out on the winning side taking a game from Ricks College 81-66 and walloping Magic Valley in a non-conference game by the score 100-59. Tillman High With 31 In the Ricks game last Thursday night Eddie Tillman, who has developed into one of the conference's outstanding cagers, tore the Vikings up as he canned 31 points and teamed with Phil Johnson to dominate the boards. Thursday night Tillman picked up 11 points in the first eight minutes as he led Weber to a 24-14 advantage midway through the first half. The Wildcats increased the margin to 45-32 at half-time. Cats Lead By 21 With Mike Sivulich and Mike Garrett swishing the net from the outside early in the second half, the Wildcats went in front by as many as 21 points. Dick Motta went to his bench and the Vikings caught fire, closing the gap to 13 points with eight minutes remaining. Tillman and Johnson then went back into the lineup and the Viking threat ended. Ricks' free throw shooting was the only thing that kept the Ida-hoans in the game as they hit 18 of 29. Weber outscored the Vikings from the field, 35-23. The playoff with the ICAC champion and Eastern Arizona College has been tentatively set for the week of Feb. 27 to March 4. The playoff will be held in the home town of the ICAC champion. The winner of that best of three-game series will qualify for the final NJCAA playoffs in Hutchinson. Last Year's Game Close Last year Weber made it to the final game of the playoff's against Phoenix where they were beaten in one of the most exciting games in their history by a 77-76 score which wasn't decided until the final seconds. Weber Risks Lead This Weekend To Gain ICAC Championship Bid By Keith Shupe The Wildcats have a busy and crucial week cut out for them. The outcome of their two games this weekend could mean Weber's fourth straight conference basket ball championship. Lead iby Game and a half Weber, leading the Icac stand' ings by only a game and a half, travels to Southern Utah for games Friday and Saturday, And this trip always a tough one oould knock the Wildcats out of sole possession of the No. 1 spot. Weber plays Dixie Friday, then goes to Cedar City Saturday for a game with College of Southern Utah. Snow College won a pair last week to vault past Dixie into second place. Weber has an 8-1 record, while the Badgens are 7-3. Three League Games Remaining Weber has three league games remaining the two on the road this week and one with Ricks here in Ogden Feb. 25, while Snow has only two. The Badgers' games are with. Boise at Boise Saturday, and with Carbon at Ephriam on Feb. 25. LDS, 2nd Spot W.I.A. has seen some active competition in basketball this quarter. The line up out of six games and one to go is Faculty 6; Lambda Delta Sigma 5; Independents 4; Sharmea 4; Nurses 2 TK and LD 1; OT 0. After a final tiring 3 game fight, Ruth Walsh is the aching champion of paddleball. Susan Parkinspn is second. The other winners will be announced next week when the doubles are played off. There will be no basketball games this Fniday because of school being excused and the Colleen trip. Good luck on the swimming meet that nobody has been practicing for. The time is going fast, so start practicing on Tuesdays Thursdays and any time you can get near the pool. r lag ic Valley Bows To WC Wildcats The Wildcats rolled to a easy victory over Magic Valley last Saturday . by the onesided score of 100-59. Two early baskets by Bob Belka gave Weber a 4-3 lead and the home team soon left their foes far behind. It was Belka and Eddie Tillman doing the early bombing that rolled up a 23-10 lead. Brief Rally The visiting Panthers rallied briefly to narrow the margin to seven points at 27-20 but that was as close as they could come. So easy was the victory that starting forwards Tillman and Phil Johnson sat out the entire second half. Tillman still managed to top the soorers with 15 points. Can't Cope With Reserves Halftime score was 54-34 and Weber picked up right where they had left off following the intermission. With 13 minutes to go, coach Dick Motta pulled his entire first string but the Panthers couldn't cope with Weber's reserves either. LaMonte Harrison and Jon O'Dell from the second unit each connected for 10 points with O'Dell sinking a jump shot to give Weber its 100th Point. , Top visiting soorers were Jim Tidewell and Tom Lewis with 11 points.
