Show Page 4 SIGNPOST May 11, 1951 Beech Stars As Veber Trips Snow Weber mound ace Basil Beech held highly touted Snow College nine to three hits, all singles, as the Wildcats upset the visiting Badgers from Ephriam 7-4 May 5 at John Affleck park in the first home game of the year. Beech started wild, walking four men in the first inning and allowing three runs to cross the plate but regained his control in the second inning and was never in trouble until the seventh when a lone tally scored. Meanwhile the Wildcats collect- , ed thirteen safeties, including the only extra base blow of the game, a triple by Weber third baseman Mark Ballif, off Suddwicks who went the route for Snow. A smooth double play, Ballif to Okuda to Wood and a spectacular diving catch by Weber right fielder, Hunsaker, brought roars of approval from the small crowd, consisting mainly of Faculty members. Coach Milt Mecham expressed amazement over the speed with which the Weber squad has im proved since their last meeting with the Snow team when they dropped a 10-3 decision. C.'s Intermountain Junior College Athletic Association track meet at the Westminister track in Salt Lake. The teams to battle, listed in the order they placed last year, are B. A. C, SICE, Ricks, Weber, Boise, Snow, Carbon, Dixie and Westminister. Weber track coach Clair Anderson, along with the team and supporting students, is hoping for a shakedown to put Weber on top of the list. Foul weather has hampered training for a few weeks, and the team has jumped at every chance to practice on the high schools' tracks. Most of this season's power has been in the field events, but Anderson is expecting improvement in the dashes and longer runs. Intramural Sports By Norm Burton The intramural track meet May 16 will bring the boys right down to the finish line for this year's activities. The intramural directors urge boys to play off their paddle ball, tennis, and horseshoes by May 16 also.' The Softball first place looks as though it is going to Phoenix, the only teani who showed up for every game and also won every game played by a good margin. The second and third place has not been determined yet because of the rain which cancelled some of the games. We are hoping for a good clear day for the track meet at the Ogden High track. We hope to have some enthusiasm' from the clubs entered. If you haven't entered yet do it by May 11. Remember May 16 and let's have a good turn out for the last event of this year. This is the last chance to see if there is an organization that can beat Phoenix out this year in this event, or any event. Sports Editorial By Adrian The Weber College baseball team played their first of the many home games scheduled this year before a small crowd at John Affleck park May 5. Faculty members made up the biggest share of the crowd. Which brings us around to a question. Where is the college spirit for America's national pastime? With an all home schedule this season Weber students will have plenty of opportunities to see their team in action. Let's support the baseball team with the same fine spirit we support other sports. See you out at the old ball game at John Affleck park. CITY PAIIIT AND WALLPAPER 2534 WASH. BLVD. PHONE 2-6697 Lowest Prices Highest Quality HOBBY CRAFT.
