Show Page 4 WEBER COLLEGE SIGNPOST Friday, May 27, 1949 LiT Abners, Daisy Maes 'Dogpatch It' Tonight Dressing Dogpatch style, Otyo-kwa social club, will present its annual Sadie Hawkins girls' dance tonight in the college ballroom. Being a traditional affair, couples attending are requested to dress as Daisy Mae and Lil' Abner, comic book and funny paper characters. Winners Chosen During the intermission the best-dressed characters will be honored and presented a bouquet and box of chocolates. The winners will be chosen by special judges during the first part of - the dance. Being the last dance besides graduation, Marian Clark, president of Otyokwa, urges all students to come. Bob Bennett, his trumpet, and All Stars from Salt Lake City will furnish the music for the evening. All members of his band have played with name bands throughout the country, Miss Clark stated. Races Held The dance is a result of the matches made from the Tuesday Sadie Hawkins races. Chaunce Moore, the first boy caught, was dunked in water and mud at Lester park by the Squaws. All girls in the school were eligible to take part in the races, which resulted in water fights. Food was sold following the event. Chairman of Sadie Hawkins day and dance are Peggy Thomas and Maralyn Brewer. Officers for the past year have been: Marian Clark, president; Rosie Peterson, vice president; Beverly Carlson, secretary; Joan Brophy, treasurer and Donna Blaes- reporter. Miss J. ROSS, Mgr. Four Field Jaunts Busy Weber Geology Students Four major field trips were taken by Weber college geology and geography students during the spring quarter, according to Mr. Buss. The first trip, which was taken by 36 students under the direction of Mr. Lambert and Mr. Buss, was to -the Arches, Dead Horse Point, and Monument Valley. The Goose Necks of the San Juan were very interesting to the students on the trip. Mr. Lambert conducted the second trip to Dinosaur National Monument and the Rangley Oil Field. Approximately 10 students accompanied him. Bryce Park and Zion Park were the locations of the third trip which was taken by Mr. Buss and 50 students. The climb to Angel's Landing was the highlight of this trip. The tour through the Hoover (Boulder) Dam was the main attraction of the fourth trip. Mr. Lambert and 25 students also visited the Ruth copper pit, Laymen's Cave, Zion Park, and Bryce Park. Scholarships (Cont. from Page 1, Col. 4) which is presented to a freshman girl in every college in the United States was presented to Delsa Davis by Mrs. Marian Reed. Soroptimist Award Soroptimist Club of Ogden awarded Elaine McArthur a $100 scholarship for being an outstanding graduate. The award was for the purpose of assisting and furthering her education. This award was presented by Mrs. Nona Todd Swenson, president of the Soroptimist club. Mrs. Clarissee Hall supervised the presentation. Music and publication scholarships were also awarded to 13 of this year's freshman class who plan to attend Weber college next year as sophomores. Ten of these were half tuition scholarships and three were full tuition. Social Whirl SHARMEA The freshman members of Shar-mea have been busy for the past few weeks making plans for the club's annual farewell banquet, to be held Saturday evening, at the Mansion House. Next year's officers will be announced at the banquet, and freshman and sophomore members will be honored. Delsa Davis is acting as general chairman of the banquet. Gerrie Reese will act as toastmistress. Patsy Gourley and Louise Smith are also serving as committee chairmen. IOTA The farewell banquet of Iota Tau Kappa was held May 22, 1949 at the Mansion House. The officers for next year are as follows: Joyce Taylor, president; Joyce Mitchell, vice president; Lois Willey, secretary; Shirley Bowman, treasurer; Jean Reynolds, historian and reporter; Janet Knowles, W. A. A. representative; Mary Davis, A. W. S. representative; and Norma Smith, Interclub representative. TIKI Tiki Kapa Kapa held their banquet at the Mansion House, May 17, which ended their activities for the past year. Gardenia corsages and gifts were presented to the old members. The new officers for the coming year are: Gloria Roe, president; Phyllis Cooper, vice president; Donna Fuller, secretary; Janice Heiser, treasurer; and Joyce Seaman, historian. CHANODO The Merry Maids are making final arrangements for their closing "Farewell Banquet" to be held Saturday night at Ma's and Pa's. At this occasion the old members shall turn their offices over to -fthe newly elected officers, which will be announced at the dinner. SOPHITA Sophita held elections at their final banquet for this year. The officers for next year are: Mercedes Trujillo, president; June Henderson, vice president; Dorothy Radle, secretary; Shirley Smith, treasurer; and Jean Ross, historian. Blvd. Phone 7819 ACORN READY NEXT WEEK Weber college yearbook, "Acorn," will be available to students May 31, in the college gymnasium lobby according to DeWard Hock, "Acorn" business manager. The yearbook, which will display a four-color picture of the front of the Meonch building on its cover, is being published by the Wheelwright Lithograph Co., of Salt Lake City. Advanced sales of the "Acorn" have reached the 500 mark, but there are approximately 300 copies yet to be sold, Mr. Hock said. Students, who have not bought their yearbooks yet, will be able to get them in the gym lobby on May 31. Buy a yearbook! A deficit will occur if more books are not sold. Graduation Rites (Cont. from Page 1, Col. 5) Weber college string ensemble, and the college choir with Bruce Wallace and Don Becker as soloists. The invocation and benediction will be by Olin Heber Ririe and Parley T. Richins, respectively. The commencement program is open to the public. Reception Immediately following the commencement service a reception will be held for graduates and their parents in the college ballroom. Thursday morning the graduates will join with the Weber college alumni association for the annual alumni breakfast at seven thirty a. m. at Ma's and Pa's in Roy.
