Show WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 1,2010 THE SIGNPOST Basketball continued from page 6 and Howley was called > \ for a technical foul. WSU hit its free throws and finished the tournament with a win and a thirdplace finish. Lillard scored 27 second-half points and finished the game with a game-high 31 points. Bamforth had 22 points and Fulton added 14. Rayvonte Rice led DU with 21 points and Ryan Wedel finished with 17. The two close games .,; ^taught the team several r-2 Wessons that they will be able to use throughout the "* remainder of the season, Rahe said. Ski continued from page 6 "With Arizona State, we played a high-quality game and it came right down to the wire, so what you can take from that is we know that if we play and we play right, then we are capable of playing against pretty high-level teams," Rahe said. "You can take some confidence from that. And the Drake game, I think it is a testament to just playing and never giving up. We showed a lot of resiliency and that if we keep fighting, we will have a chance to win." Rahe said he was happy with the outcome of the tournament and the team's effort in the three games. "I was real pleased with our team," Rahe said. "I thought we played real hard with the exception of maybe one half.... Overall, I saw some good things and saw some things we need to work on too. But any time you eo into those type of tournaments, you want to win the whole thing, but if you can go two and one, I think you'll take it and run, especially since we played some good-quality teams." are avid BYU fans, and I don't think my pride could hold up very long if it felt as though BYU had the home-court advantage. So please, if only for my sake, make an effort to show up to the games during the break. The sports teams work hard to represent WSU. The least the student body could do is show them a little love. The other half of WSU basketball has some big games on the schedule, too. The women's team will host Oregon State University on Dec. 14, and Boise State University on Dec. 18. They'll finish the break hosting the University of Nevada on Dec. 30. Let me tell you, the women's basketball team is playing some excellent basketball so far this season. They played an exciting game against the University of Utah and tallied a couple of convincing wins earlier in the season. I'm excited? to see how they compet^;' when conference pla^ gets under way in January. And with that, I'll say goodbye until spring semester. Be sure to pick up The Signpost on the stands when we get back from the break. My column will return every Wednesday, and sports editor Craig Halbasch's column, "Weekly Basch," will be back too. We'll do our best to give you the best WSU basketball coverage anywhere. In addition to our coverage in print and online, Craig and I are looking to start a weekly podcast, where we'll give you news and our opinions on all things WSU sports. Until then, good luck with finals. Be safe, and enjoy the break. I know I will. make you a better skier all around." Along with a season pass and training from the experienced coaches, members will have the cost of their registration fees for all races and lift tickets to various resorts taken care of. Ski Team Vice President Josh Stuart said that there are additional benefits for getting involved. "We encourage everyone to come out and participate for many reasons," Josh said. "You will become a better skier, but many of the guys have made strong friendships and now have ski buddies to go practice with. I have never enjoyed my school experience as much as I do now because I am involved." Students interested in becoming members of the team may contact Davies at daviesalabama@me.com or 801-389-4420, or Josh Stuart at joshstuart@mail. weber.edu or 801-6431927. They'll host Seattle University on Saturday before playing road games against Southern Utah University and the University of Tulsa. The Wildcats will be back in the Dee Events Center on Dec. 18 to play against the University of the Southwest, and then the big home game comes on Dec. 21 against Brigham Young University. The matchup against BYU is probably the game I'm most eagerly looking forward to. I'll finally get to see WSU guard Damian Lillard square up against BYU guard Jimmer Fredette. You know what the worst-case scenario from the BYU game would be? Not a Wildcat loss. The worst thing that could happen at that game is BYU fans outnumbering WSU fans.
