Show o o VA 1' ' jL Master TeacherStudent Senate Award: The faculty member who's demonstrated scholarly excellence, sagacious teaching style, availability to students and high quality interaction with students has most profoundly enhanced the Learning Environment at Weber State College. V Lawrence Evans is a professor of philosophy and uses humor in the classroom to interest students. Until last year he was the dean of social sciences and has published extensively in refereed journals Neila Seshachari is a professor of English, specializing in 20th Century American literature. She has been a spokeswoman for women's issues on campus as well as regionally. Scholar of the YearDeans Council Award: The student who, in addition to maintaining high scholastic standards, has exhibited incisive mastery of curriculum and demonstrated ability to utilize this knowledge in meaningful academic pursuits both inside and outside the traditional classroom setting. Francis Kosakowsky is a political science major. After a 20 year hiatus, she re-enrolled in college at the age of 39. as a widow with a child in kindergarten. She has been involved in community service projects and helped develop the Married Students Survey. 0 O 0 test David Berube is a professor of communications. He coaches the debate team and uses his writing and acting experiences to innovate new classes. Candadai Seshachari is a professor of English with a concentration on American and English literature. He is always available to students and is planning to write a book on Martin Luther King. Ed Walker is a professor of chemestry and he humanizes his subject and encourages qualified students to seek postgraduate education. Mark A. Allred is currently completing his second bachelor of arts degree at Weber State College and has a 4.0 GPA. He is a former school of education outstanding scholar and is currently a linguistinterrogator in the Utah National Guard , . Mike Montgomery is a manufacturingengineering technology major. In addition to his 4.0 GPA. which no other student in that major has attained, Mike has served as project manager for all senior projects in his department. j o Wildcat Achievement Award: the in- diviual or organization which, through dedication and disciplined application, has exercised talents and abilities in an extraordinary manner (ie: individuals who: have overcome significant obstacles: have attained recognized excellence in athletics, academics; extra-curricular or cummunity pursuits and organizations which have brought renown and credit to this institution.) Bruce Richeson is the 1982-83 ASWSC president and has served as a member of the Weber State College Institutional Council, chairman of the Union Policy Board, president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and as ASWSC executive vice president.Bert Winterton is a professor of zoology, specializing in heredity. He has written his own text and has chaired the Science Fair for several years. Glenn Hover is a zoology p re-med major. An excellent athlete, Glenn has been involved in numerous cross-country bicycling, swimming and skiing competitions. In 1983 he was selected for a Ririe-Woodbury Dance residency. Jov LaVcrnc Schocnccker maintains a 4 0 GPA in her oral communications major. This has been achieved while she has been employed full-time, married, maintained a home, and been involved in numerotis community activities. O John David Johnson has served as convocations chairman, a member of the WSC Media Board, Intra-fratemity Council vice president and a member of the Dee Events Center Policy Board. He is listed in Who's Who Among Students and Outstanding Young Men in America. Richard S. (Rick Southwick is currently the student member of the Utah State Board of Regents. He has served as ASWSC academic vice president, a member of the Weber State Faculty Senate, the Dean's Council and the Weber State College Media Board. The WSC Debate Team. Each member of this team has contributed over 100 hours to assist in coordinating and administering two high school and two collegiate tournaments. As a result over 1,500 students, coaches and judges were guests of WSC. The 1982-83 Debate Team is ranked sixth in the nation. Sigma Gamma Chi fraternity. This group won the coveted College Spirit Award for best participation at football and basketball games, was winner of the campus involvement award for having more organization members on college committees and boards than anny other campus organization and won the organizational display competition at September's Welcome Week. v Married Students Survey. This project documented and analyzed the unique stresses faced by older, married woman WSC students with children. The survey took over 400 hours to complete and analyzed areas where WSC is meeting non-traditional needs and areas where this particular group's needs are not being met. Alumnus of the Year: The alumnus who has so distinguished herself himself since graduation that their accomplishements reflect credit on Weber State College and serve as a model of the best this campus has to offer. Robert C. Dabling is an assistant professor of Military Science at Weber. Captain Dabling has completed his Masters of Public Administration at the University of Oklahoma and has filled numerous sensitive assignments while affiliated with the Military Intelligence Organization. O Personality of the Year: The individual whose unique style and contributions have enriched the texture of campus life and substantively inpacted the college andor surrounding community. Marcia V. Cossette has been very active in the Resident Hal) Association. She has also worked as an assistant ombudsman for ASWSC and as a liason with the College Activities Board. She is presently a resident assistant at Wasatch Hall. Charlette Starks has served as president of Black Scholars United for two years. Her campus activities include; member ship on the Union Policy Board, the College Activity Board and the Convocation Committee. Kobb S. Alexander, is an Accouni Executive with A & K Railroad Materials. He has been selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America . Kristen Hurst-Hyde is a professional opera singer. She earned a masters degree from the U of U in vocal performance and was granted a fellowship at Juillaru School of Music. She has performed wilh numerous professional musical organizations and is active in civic and church af- Judith M. Cole, as president of Psi Chi, nas often rendered encouragement and suport to fellow students She also worked as a peer advisor in the Academic Advisement Center, helping students correlate their interests with WSC academic program offerings. Bruce Richeson has been active in student government for three-and-a-half years. He is currently serving as ASWSC president. Richeson has been involved in a variety of church, community and school service activities and is a member of the WSC Institutional Council. Ncal O. Stockett has been intricately associated with the WSC Academic Advisement office. He has completed a public relations survey which was very useful to the Associated Students and was involved in the planning and implementation of the 1982 Preview Week. ' Leslie C. Baily is an insluctor in the ROTC department. He earned his master in administration of justice education at Wichita State University. His military career has included, command of the 205lh M P. Co. J- Matthcw J. Sogers is currently a visiting assistant professor of economics at WSC His M A and Ph D degrees wit? cinird at Ohio State where he was a University Fellow. He has published several scholarly works and was awarded a $50,01)0 research grant on Soviet Energy. |
