This photo, taken in Tucker replaces Landers Tanya Tucker signed a contract last night to be the guest entertainer for the Crystal Crest Awards program. Ms. Tucker was obtained after the Landers Sisters broke their contract last week. Ms. Tucker is an Artista Records recording star and she has just released the album-"Feels Right." Ms. Tucker has won five Grammy Awards, including "New Country Artist of the Year." She will be sandwiching her appearance at the Crystal Crest Awards in between performances in Nashville and Memphis. ASWSC advisor Grant Protzman said, "I feel like she has really established herself as a credible talent, and we are pleased to bring her to Weber State." Ms Tucker will be making appearances at the reception held before the awards program (by invitation only), the awards program and at the President's Ball. Insurance offered to WSC employees Several meetings have been scheduled today to inform WSC employees about the benefits of dental insurance coverage that will be available on July 1. The new dental insurance program will be available to all employees who are eligible for medical insurance. The meetings will be held in the Little Theater in the Union Building at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Only one of these meetings needs to be attended.The dental insurance contract has been awarded to Educators Mutual. Eighty percent of the premium will be payed for by the college, with the employee picking up the remaining 20 percent. New editors named to Signpost staff Science dean named June 1 A higher education administrator from Maine has been named as the new dean of the Weber State College school of Natural Science. The Weber State Institutional Council approved June 1 a recommendation to appoint Dennis M. Travis to the position beginning July 1. Dr. Travis is currently the vice president for Academic Affairs at the University of Maine at Presque Island, Maine. He is also an associate professor of biology at the Maine university. He received his Ph.D. in botany from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 1974 and his M.Ed, from Edin-boro State College in Pennsylvania. Dr. Robert B. Smith, vice president for Academic Affairs at Weber State, described Dr. Travis as "a strong, effective administrator." He said, "The three final candidates demonstrated strengths in all crucial areas, but it became clear that one was primarily an eminent scientist, one an outstanding teacher and one Dr. Travis an experienced administrator."Travis has authored several papers and fulfilled a leadership role at the national level in his botanical speciality. In addition he has presented workshops at many universities, colleges and conferences throughout the United States. He has served as the vice president for Academic Affairs at Mansfield State College in Pennsylvania, as the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Millikin University in Illinois, as an assistant dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at Miami University in Ohio and as a faculty member at Miami University. He is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Association for Higher Education, the American Conference of Academic Deans, the American Institute of Biological Sciences, the Botanical Society of America, Inc., and many others. He is listed in both the "American Men and Women of Science" and the "Outstanding Young Men of America" and has served as a member of the board of directors for the American Cancer Society in Hamilton, Ohio. Several editors will be returning to the positions that they are currently holding at the Signpost and two new editors who will be joining the staff in the fall. Brian Slaugh, a sophomore from Moses Lake, Was., will be joining the staff as managing editor. Slaugh is currently the editor of the Big Ben Community College newspaper. Also new on the staff will be Robin Hicks. Hicks will be the arts and entertainment editor. News editor of the Signpost will be Rae Dawn Olbert. Olbert has been a reporter and she is present news editor. Colleen Mewing will retain the position of sports editor. Mewing has also worked as a reporter for the Signpost as well as being the sports editor both winter and spring quarters. Mewing will be helped by an assistant sports editor to be chosen later. The editor of the Signature section will be Donna Layton. Layton has been in charge of Signature spring quarter. Next week is test week, (as is you didn't already know).
