What do you "hear with your heart" on Thanksgiving? Is it only the bounteous array of food that always accompanies this holiday, or the knowledge you are free from school pressures for two extra days or do you think of its real significance? The story of the first Thanksgiving is old and even though it is repeated again and again it does not lose its importance because it is endowed with the true spirit and reason for rendering gratitude. Thanksgiving was a community affair until 1864 when President Lincoln proclaimed it a national holiday. It is the only religious festival celebrated in the United States under the authority of the civil government. A specific day, the fourth Thursday in November, was set aside for this national holiday. It is the only day that is purely American. G!v2 Thanks for What? F.
