Show February 12, 1965 SIGNPOST Page 7 Your Opinion May Be . onn A s cnosarsiiip During the months of February and March, Reed and Barton, America's oldest major silversmiths, are conducting a "Silver Opinion Competition" in which valuable scholarships totalling $2050 are being offered to duly enrolled women students at a few select colleges and universities. Weber State College has been selected to enter this competition in which the first grand award is a $300 cash scholarship; second grand award is a $300 scholarship; third grand award is a 5250 scholarship; fourth, fifth and sixth awards are $200 scholarships; and seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth are $100 scholarships. In addition, there will be 100 other awards consisting of sterling silver, fine china and crystal with a retail value of approximately $50. In the 1965 "Silver Opinion Competition", an entry form illustrates twelve designs of sterling with eight designs of both china and crystal. The entrants simple list the three best combinations of sterling, china, and crystal from the patterns illustrated. Scholarship and awards will be made to those entries matching or coming closest to the unanimous selections of tho table setting editors from three of the nation's leading magazines.Miss Joyce Vellinga is the student representative who is conducting the "Silver Opinion Competition" for Reed and Barton at Weber College. Those interested in entering the "Silver Opinion Competition" should contact Miss Vellinga at 3239 Gramercy or Mrs. Tribe in Robm 313, for entry blanks and for complete details concerning the Competition rules. She also has samples of 12 of the most popular Reed and Barton designs so that entrants can see how these sterling patterns actually look. Through the opinions on silver design expressed by college women competing for these scholarships, Reed and Barton hopes to compile a valuable library of expressions of young American taste. Me-cham said Saturday. Winter registration usually dips 10 per cent, while autumn attendance is usually the highest quarter, the registrar said. As of Friday, WeDGr State's day students numbered 4,641. The fall registration was 4,603. The winter quarter a year ago Dr. Clscn Featured Speaker at Institute Dr. Jennings G. Olson, head of the department of philosophy at Weber State College, will be a featured speaker at an institute on "Cultures, Alcohol and Related Problems," at Moab on Saturday. Prof. Olson, a graduate of the Yale University School of Alcohol Studies, will also take part on a panel with faculty members of University of Utah and Utah State University. The panel will discuss alcohol consumption in the U.S., and problems related to the use and abuse of alcohol. totaled 3,761. With the 1,901 evening school students added, Weber's current winter quarter enrollment totals 6,542. The winter quarter day class enrollment includes a freshman class of 2.029, compared to the 1,519 frosh attending on the same day a year ago. Registrar Mecham urged all students who plan to graduate next spring with a bachelor degree, associate degree, or in other programs to contact his office as soon as possible. Commencement is set for June 5.
