Cats Romp Oyer Carbon Eagles, 26-7 In 1952 Grid Opener, Last Friday Wildcat gridders from Weber college in their first test of the 1952 season romped over the Carbon college Eagles, 26 to 7, Friday, September 9. Some 2000 fans at Ogden City stadium saw Weber get off to a shaky start in the initial quarter as Wildcat Jack Andrews shot a pass intended for Daurel Barnes but intercepted by Jack Woodard, who dashed the remaining 40 yards for the game's first score. Though plagued by 155 yards of lost ground by penalties, the Wildcats started to hold the Price team down while adding to their own score after the second quarter started. Weber's first came as Gary Loosli fired a long 35 yard pass to end George Taylor, who on the next play ran the final yard for the six pointer. A wide conversion left the score 7 to 6 in favor of the visitors. After a threat by the Carbon machine, Wildcat Dick White drove around right end, reversed field, drove down the left side deep into Eagle territory before being stopped by Sam Juliano. However, right after that, Loosli tromped through middle of the line for 7 yards into the end zone for another score for the Wildcats. In the third quarter a 16 yarder from Andrews to Taylor racked the Weber score up another 7 points as Andrews' conversion was good. Another drive by Loosli through the Carbon line for 16 yards in the final period ended the scoring for both teams. Standouts of the game were George Taylor, Ron Lowder, Jack Brown and Tony Toscan for Weber, and Sam Juliano, Kiel Kelson, Jack Woodard and Raron Ellis for. Carbon. Clash Injured Star Clark Might Ruin BAC Hopes Branch Aggies of Cedar City will be (he tough gridiron opponent on tonight's opener of the 1000-mile long (geographically) Intermoun-tain Collegiate Athletic Conference.Game time is 8:30 p. m. for what promises to be a colorful scrap with the southern Utah athletes. The Aggie maulers have been fortified this season by the return of several former stars after a stint in military service. However, the sensational scorer, Lamar Clark, may not be in the line-up. For the sake of the fight and a fair victory, Wildcat fans are hoping Clark has recovered from the injury which had him out of play as recently as last weekend. Remote Boise, whose location is responsible for the wide geographic spread of the league from southern ' Utah into mid-Idaho, has won the championship for the past three years. Coach Milt Mccham has not said yes or no to the Wildcat hopes, but from here it scorns that a Wildcat season may be due this time. Coach will start Daural Barnes and George Taylor, who scored well against Carbon College, at ends; Gary Crompton and Jack Brown at tackles; Max Cologna and Dick Brown at guards; Jack Andrews at quarterback; Gary Loosli, who also starred against Carbon, and Don Shaw at hall-back posts; and Ron Lowder at fullback. Several veterans are' back in the Wildcat line-up after stints in military service, incluring Jack Andrews, who formerly played heads-up football for Weber. Both Mecham and Dr. Reed K. Swenson, head coach, reported interest in Weber athletic fortunes at a high point. Several hundred season tickets have been sold. With plenty of that invaluable but sometimes scarce stuff, student body support, the outlook is plainly favorable for the home school., Be there tonight at klckoff if you want to get the fireworks firsthand. j For Stationery, Greeting Cards and School Supplies . . .
