Campus Social Clubs Open '52-'53 Year With Rush Parties and Future Plans Greetings of good will to all new Weberites in anticipation of "a great year" were extended this week by officials of social clubs in an effort to get the year going with friendliness and fun traditional at the college. Chanodo: "The Merry Maids of Chanodo want to welcome every one to Weber with a friendly Hi! We hope everyone finds the halls as warm and friendly as we found them, and we as a club will try to keep them that way. "Some of our special activities are to decorate Weber's Christmas trees, and hold a Christmas party for welfare children. Chan-odo's formal dance. Forest Fantasy, features selection of a Robin Hood. Our annual assembly could feature almost anything." Alpho Rho: "Alpha Kho wishes to welcome the freshmen and we hope for a good year together. Members promise to support all school functions and to further the dreams of our four-vear college."Events for the year will be club parties, inter-club parties and the famed Alpha Rho Omega 'Collegiate Promenade.' La Dianaeda: "A good hearty 'hello' to all of you freshmen. We are sure you'll enjoy the friendlv Frosh Week climaxes tonight with the football game and dance afterwards in the Gym ballroom, offering the student body a final chance to get into the Weber swing right at the start. Plans include an either "Stag or Date" affair so that the football heroes of the Branch Aggie team especially will find feminine charm available for the evening. Those in charge desire a turnout of lone gals to make the scheme work. The event should be something of an ice-breaker for the local beaus also. If the players are not too beaten up and too despondent over the outcome, forecast by smart Weber fans as a home win, the post game dance should be a fun-packed opener for the college social season, according to Allen Cook, in charge of arrangements. Music will be the product of Jerry Lane and his five-piece orchestra. These noise-makers will be the needed ingredient for a real foot-tingling ball, if the other plans take fire as expected, said Cook. "This will be about your last chance for a while to ignore the faculty and relax in the arms of a handsome or lovely individual of the other sex," stressed Prexy Val Lofgreen. "Make the most of it." One-Third of Female Attributes At Miss Utah Finals Are Weberites Miss Utah has been named and now the other 21 contestants can go back home and be themselves, among them four present or former Weber college charmers. Long on talent, personality, beauty and whatever else it takes were Carol Watkins, Kay Jon Mil-don, Jo Ann Norlander and Hope Stewart. The first three were among the nine finalists. Kay Jon, Miss Ogden, was one of the most high powered freshmen at Weber last year, won numerous state, regional and national honors in speech and debate. Her contest talent was a dramatic reading. Hope, Miss Ogden attendant, was also active at Weber College last year and gave a spirited account of herself up to the finals of the Miss Utah event. Carol, who also attended Weber, representing the U.S.A.C., gained attention for her piano talent and long-stemmed type of beauty. Miss Norlander, the other Miss Ogden attendant, did art sketches and a dramatic bit dealing with fashions. Selection of LaVon Brown of Provo as Miss Utah gives her a trip to Atlantic City and chance at the Miss America title. Spectacular among all Miss America successes was Utah's only winner, who recently surrendered her crown after a year of devoting unusual ability to a tight schedule of appearances and dramatic performances in the great cities of America.
