Show SITUATION IN SAMOA. Tlk"owof Withdrawing AU OffloU.ll f Tripartite Powers. Washington, Feb. 25. No demand has been made by the German government govern-ment for the removal by the United States of Chief Justice Chambers of Samoa, nor is it true that either the United States or the British government govern-ment has demanded the relief of the president of the municipal council, Dr. Raffel, and the German consul at Apia, Mr. Rose. The acts of these oflicials have been the subject of criticism, and it has gone to the point that a suggestion has been made from each of the two sides into which the issue has divided the tripartite powers that the most satisfactory and quickest way to restore re-store harmonious relations and assure a peaceable administration in Samoa, would be to withdraw all of these officials offi-cials and to wipe out all old scores. At the same time there have been no demands de-mands made oo either side; nothing but intimations and suggestions. What the result will be it is not possible to foretell. Hy this time if the German promise has been carried out, one of these factors has been removed in the person of Dr. Raffel, who has been recalled to Germany. |
