Show TO THE IltOX FIELDS. Rio Grand Western to Extend ltd Harysvole Line to Cedar City. Salt Lake Herald. It was stated by a prominent railroad rail-road official yesterday that represenr tatives of the Ilio Grande Western railway rail-way and Colorado Fuel and Iron company com-pany had recently held a conference in relation to the development of the immense im-mense coal and iron fields in the vicinity vicin-ity of Cedar City. At the close of the meeting it was tacitly understood by both parties that each would do its share towards the support of the work about to be undertaken. The Western agreed to push the grading work that is now being done between Belknap and Marysvalc, and to extend their tracks to and beyond Cedar City, provided pro-vided the Fuel ec Iron company would, in turn' agree to guarantee them sufficient suf-ficient freight business to warrant the undertaking of such an expensive piece of work. The Fuel Iron company concurred in tho wishes of the Western's West-ern's representatives, and guaranteed to turn over all of their ore for shipment ship-ment to the smelters at Pueblo, provided pro-vided the Western would agree to haul it for 1 a ton. The Western men accepted ac-cepted the proposition, and it is understood under-stood that the work oi grading beyond Marysvale will be undertaken immediately. im-mediately. It wdll cost about 10 cents a ton to mine the iron ore, which wdll make it worth $1.10 per tou delivered at the Pueblo smelter. It is also understood that this rate will continue in force only until such time as the Fuel ec Iron company sees fit to erect its own smelter at Cedar City. |
