Show MONTANA MURDERER HANGED- Wanted No "Sky Mot" to Guide Him to Heaven. Helena, Mont,, Jan. 29. Tom Salmon, Sal-mon, former president of the Red Lodge Miners' union, who killed Superintendent Su-perintendent Connor of the Rocky Fork coal mine for discharging him, was hanged Friday at Red Lodge. Salmon refused to accept scriptural consolation, saying that he "wanted no minister, priest or sky pilot to show him the road to heaven." His last words were: "If any of you follow my body to the cemetery, do not uncover your heads and take chances of getting pneumonia. It is a barbarous custom, and I hope you will protect yourselves, for by so doing you will please me." A minute and a half after leaving his cell Salmon was dangling in the air. He was a well known labor leader in the northwestern states. |
