Show COLONEL SEXTON DEAD. Commander-in-Chief of the G. A. R. Diet at the National Capital. Washington, Feb. 6. Colonel James A. Sexton, commander-in-chief of the Grand Army of the Republic, died at 3:15 yesterday morning, at Garfield hospital, in this city. Colonel Sexton was an active worker in the Grand Army of the Republic, the Military Order of the Loyal Legion, Le-gion, and many other army societies. He was past commander of the department depart-ment of Illlinois, G. A. R., and had been a presidential elector, park commissioner, com-missioner, and colonel in the Illinois national guard. At the last meeting of the Grand Army of the Republic he was elected commander-in-chief, and held this position at the time of his death, as well as that of a member of the board of commissioners appointed by the president to investigate the conduct con-duct of the Spanish war. |
