Show Funeral Services Held In Santa Clara For Mrs. Anna M. Hafen SANTA CLARA, Utah. Bishop Edward R. Frei Jr., conducted funeral services in the Santa Clara ward chapel Tuesday at 5 p. m., for Mrs. Anna Mary Elizabeth Huber Hafen, 82, who died at her home early Monday morning, May 15th, of ailments incident to age. She was been In poor1 health for several months. Music Numbers Music numbers for the program included two quartets, "Sometime We'll Understand", and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", by Ernest Reber, Henry Graff, Mrs. Vivian Frei and Mrs. Wayne Hafen. Mrs. Hafen was soloist for the second number. Mrs. Preston Hafen sang, "O, My Father". Speakers were William Tobler i of Washington, Henry Graff and 'JIarmon Hafen of Santa Clara. All three told of the faithful life of the deceased, her devotion to her family, her public service in caring for the sick, and her lack of complaint. They told also of how she had done much heavy work during her younger life and of her skill in many ways and her personal thrift. Prayers were by A. K. Hafen and Theodore Graff, with Leo F. Reber dedicating the grave in the Santa Clara cemetery. Born April 17, 1862, in Armi-gem Armi-gem Canton Bern, Switzerland, she was the eldest of five children child-ren of Andreas and Anna Gigax Huber. When she was five years old, her father suffered an injury that permanently disabled him, and thereafter she assisted her mother in making the living for the family. She found employment in a silk factory where she worked for many years.. In 1862, she became be-came a convert to the L. D. S. church, being baptized by Theodore Theo-dore Baer, who was an L. D. S. missionary. She began plans at once for coming to America and Utah. This angered her mother, who wanted her to remain and work. However, she left Switzerland Switzer-land in 1884, arriving in Salt Lake City in September of that year, and joining the Swiss colony in Santa Clara. On November 13, 1884, she became be-came the plural wife of John G. Hafen, being married -in the St. George Temple. She was mother of eight children, four of whom died in infancy. She also buried an adult son. All through her life, Mrs. Hafen nas Deen Known lur iki naru work, her contributions to the support of her family, and her community service both for the church and in the care of the community sick. She became very efficient at this work. Surviving are two sons, Frank Hafen of Washington, and Walter Hafen of Ivins; one daughter, Mrs. Edmond Gubler of Santa Clara; 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. |
