Show Mrs. Clark Benson Dies In Child Birth; Baby Kept Alive To-date HURRICANE, Utah Mrs. Clark Benson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Imlay, died in child birth at the McGregor hospital September 9. The infant son is being cared for in an incubator at the hospital. Mrs. Benson, who before her marriage was Fern Imlay, was born in Hurricane January 12, 1914, attended high school there and graduated as a teacher from the U.S.A.C. in Logan. She was secretary to the school board of Overton, Nev., after which she taught in Enterprise for two years. June 12, 1937, she married Clark Benson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Benson, in the Salt Lake Temple and the couple have made their home in Enterprise. Janet, a daughter was born to them June, 1938. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 11, in the stake chapel, which was overflowing over-flowing with friends and relatives. rela-tives. , Mrs. Ruthell Reeves and Mrs. Reba Fawcett, intimate friends of Mrs. Benson, were in charge of the flower girls. Prayers were offered by Allie Stout and Alvin Englestead. Musical Musi-cal numbers were: Hurricane ward mixed quartet, composed of Lafe Staheli, Grant Woodbury, Mrs. Grant Wright and Mrs.. Lillian Workman; Dilworth Snow of St. George sang, "Lay My Head Beneath A Rose"; violin solo by Mrs. Everett of St. George, acompanied by Mrs. Mae Pace; solo by Mrs. Lillian Workman, Work-man, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought", accompanied by Mrs. Garth Sandberg; duet by Mrs. Alta Truman and Howard Holt of Enterprise. Speakers were: Bishop Barlocker; Wm. Lund, of Enterprise; Enter-prise; Milton Moody, superinden-dent superinden-dent of. schools; Pres. Glenn A. Snow, of St. . George; Wayne Hinton, Claudius Hirschi and Elmer Graff of Hurricane. In closing, Dorothy Truman, one of Mrs. Benson's club members mem-bers read a tribute written for her by Verna Holt, of Enterprise, interpreting the sentiments of all her hundreds of friends. Relatives and friends came from Cedar City, Parowan, St. George, Enterprise, Enter-prise, Overton, Hinckley, Newcastle, New-castle, New Harmony and neighboring neigh-boring towns. Burial took place in the St. George cemetery with Wallace B. Mathis, dedicating the grave. |
