Show FORMER ST GEORGE RESIDENT DIES IN SALT LAKE CITY Apparently in good health, after working in his office during the day and attending a dinner in the evening, Dr. Claudius W. Gates, 58, of 1749 Ninth East Street, prominent Salt Lake dentist for the past 30 years was seized with a stroke at his home Tuesday night and died about 10:30 p. m. The death of Dr. Gates came without warning and removes from the community com-munity a man of high standing in his profession and a substantial citizen. Although not in public life, he was widely known and highly respected. Dr. Gates was born in St. George, Utah. Feb. 15, 1869, a son of Jacob and Mary Ware Gates. His early education educa-tion was obtained in the schools of St. George and in Salt Lake City. When a young man he decided on the profession of dentistry as a career and attended the Chicago Dental college col-lege from which institution he graduated gradu-ated with high honors. Returning to this city he built up a large practice and for many years maintained offices in the Templeton building. One of Dr. Gates' sons, Claudius Y. Gates is studying medicine in Philadelphia, Philadel-phia, Pa., and the other, Eliot Gates, is studying law at the George Washington Wash-ington University in Washington, D. C. Both have been notified of their father's fath-er's demise. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lyle Young Gates, the two sons mentioned, a brother, Arthur Gates of Oakland, Calif., three half brothers, Jacob, Jed and William Gates of St. George, and a half sister, Mrs. Moroni Snow.
