Show RANGE AND DEER CONDITIONS STUDIED Game Warden and Forest Hanger Hang-er Spend Week on Dixie Game Preserve. Forest Ranger Benjamin Swapp and Deputy Game Warden War-den Oliver Stratton returned "on Saturday from Pine Valley moun tain wnere iney spent a ween making a survey of range and wild life conditions. Starting at Central they followed the north side of the mountain to Harmony Har-mony and returned to Central on the south side, making a complete round of the mountain. The principal object was to study range conditions, the num-j ber of deer on the preserve and i the apparent increase. They found ; the animals in fair shape for ' this time of the year, despite drought conditions, and saw sev-; eral large bunches. However, most of the riding was done during the heat of the day. There is, undoubtedly., according accord-ing to their report, a large fawn crop. The tipper range is not showing show-ing the effects of the drought, and is in good shape. The lower low-er range, however, is drying up, and although the recent showers show-ers freshened the vegetation, unless un-less they continue the condition will become serious. According to the game wanTen deer are not doing as much damage to ranches this year as in former years. There is some complaint, however, but it is thought that on account of the drought deer have moved to the higher levels to get water. |
