Show MAN V HO DUG FIRST 11 ELLI ELL IN 4 L ake DILS AT enterprise enterprise aug 3 31 1 thomas searles terry one of pioneers was called by death at his home in enterprise utah aug 12 1920 he lie was 94 years old he came to utah in the company headed by daniel spencer entering salt lake valley sept 25 1847 with newman buckley he prepared the lumber from which the first water wheel was made in utah and with thomas morris dug the first well in salt lake and utah on what is now know as south temple street digging 53 feet before they struck water he lie was one of the settlers of the southern part of the state mr air terry traveled with parley P pratt from Utah back east upon a mission when elder pratt was killed though he was not present when the tragedy took place thomas searles terry was the father of 30 children 22 of whom are still living he has bad had grandchildren of whom are still alive great grandchildren and 19 great great grandchildren his funeral was held at enterprise utah aug 15 bishop george 0 holt presiding the speakers were asel J barnum former bishop G A holt B C farnsworth 0 J harmon thomas cottam and president edward 11 snow the latter two of the stake presidency of st george stake his ilia body was laid away in the family plot in the enterprise cemetery deseret news |
