Zelda was sixth of ten children and lived to be the last surviving member. She was raised in panish Fork, Utah, and graduated from Spanish Fork High School. They lived in several Utah towns, including — Payson, Topaz, Murray, and Keetley, as Earl proceeded with his teaching career and Zelda | raising their family. They then moved to Los Angeles, where they owned the Temple Motel across from the Los Angeles Temple. When Earl retired ~ from the public school system in Los Angeles, and Zelda .from.operating the motel, they returned to Spanish Fork, Utah to reside. Earl ese Zelda in death on March 22, 1978. Zelda has lived the past seven years in Midway. Utah, and. ean in Golden Living, of Orem, and Summerfield Manor, also of Orem. Many thanks to all who lovingly cared for this sweet lady. She will be greatly missed. Zelda enjoyed art, ceramics, decorating with the girls at seniors, golf, and serving as a Pink Lady for several years at the Payson Hospital. Zelda held many callings in the LDS Church; she served the Lord, her family and friends with joyful enthusiasm throughout her life. Preceded in death by her loving husband, parents, nine brothers nad sisters; Bessie Langer, Lucile Salee, Arvilla Christensen, Jenny Sorenson, Delbert Peterson, Ross Peterson, Mable Ludlow, Max Peterson and Bruce © Peterson, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Gladys and Stanley Wilson, sons; Joseph Lamar Smith and Louis Earl Smith, and grandson oan Louis Smith. _ Survived by dijotia bas Aue Peterson, Cleone Petarsdli and Marie Peterson, children; Stanley W. Their story is, in many © ways, typical of many ofthe early pioneers who came west, yet it is a special and exciting account that we all need to appreciate and honor. — William Wallace. Casper ie the Mormon Battalion which caused his young wife and two year old daughter to survive on their own while he went south to defend his John Besendorfer _. country in the American-Mexican War. Sarah Ann Casper, her daughter, ~ and a 15-year old brother, George Washington Bean, arrived in Salt Lake Valley in October 1847, with the Jedediah Grant Company, about two months after the vanguard party with Brigham Young. When William _ Wallace Casper arrived in the Valley about two weeks later, he expected that he would have to return to Winter Quarters (Kanesville, Iowa) to find his wife and farnily, but was surprised and overjoyed to find them . already here. The first winter was spent in the Old Fort, and then they moved to Mill Creek the next spring. They had nine sons; two of whom lived most of their lives in Heber Valley. The first son, William Nephi | Casper, came in 1883, and the second son, James Moroni Casper, came in — 1889. Many ofthe long-time residents of Wasatch County are related to these pioneers, and the posterity of William Wallace and Sarah Aon Bean Casper now numberiin the tens of thousands, most of whom are in the Utah and Idaho areas. In his recounting of the history of this family, John See will © display the uniform and sword worn by Major Casper as he served in the Utah Militia.
