I'm glad it seems we're finally at the end of the tun nel. We are all finally able to leave the gyms and indoor courts as the sports move to the fields and diamonds throughout Vernal. I can't help remembering a statement I happened to over hear while covering my first baseball base-ball game last year. A woman, sitting a few rows behind me, commented that it seemed like the baseball season ended up being colder than the football season. I have to admit I found the statement a little silly at the time. I mean on that particular day the sun was shining and the sky was a perfect blue. Absolutely no hint of what the season had in store for those committed to attending every spring game. The issue with spring for me is its dishonesty. I'd leave the office dressed in only a t-shirt and jeans, perfect attire for the warm sun accompanying me out the door. Minutes after the first pitch a cold wind would start to blow, moving in a couple of dark clouds. The clouds would then dump a chilling rain on those of us without umbrellas. The wind and the rain, those two factors imprinted the woman's statement state-ment into my memory. I covered the football season for the first time this year and although there were a few cold games, I always remembered my coat. I expected the worse and was thus prepared. Spring makes a person hoper ful, we expect our lawns to green and giant tomatoes to pop up on our vines. Fall is our reality check, induced perhaps by summer sum-mer disappointments or facing the bleak start of winter. Whatever the reason, this year I've resolved to avoid the hypnotizing spell these blue skies and ideal temperatures have a way of casting. I'll be taking my coat to these cold spring sports. My gardening expectations are a different story. I Freshman Chanel Pace slides hard into second. Some of the freshman on Uintah's team have been key players in the teams success thus far. Horse trainers needed for Wyoming mustang event Twenty-five talented horse trainers are needed for the Wyoming Wyo-ming Mustang Challenge, which will be held in conjunction with the Wyoming State Fair, Aug. 15-16, in Douglas, Wyo.
