Show A4 Wednesday, March 26, 2008 Obituaries Chad Crosby Chad W. Scott Crosby was born Sept. 10, 1940 to Benjamin Willis Scott and Nellie Jane Hatch. He diedMarch 17, 2008 at the age of 67. Chad was adopted by Thomas Steele Crosby when he was about 6. Chad grew up mostly in Aspen and Rifle, Colo. He put himself through college by working at many jobs, including research work for both the State of Colorado Colo-rado and the university, driving taxi, washing windows, working as a chemist at a sugar factory and shovelingmuck with a wheelbarrow wheel-barrow at a cement plant to name a few. It took him from 1959 to 1970 to complete school as well as tend to his jobs and his family responsibilities. He graduated with bachelor's degrees in wildlife wild-life management and fisheries science and a master's degree in fisheries pathology. He went to Mesa Junior College Col-lege in Grand Junction, Colo., and finished up at Colorado State University where he met his wife, Hazel May Huskey. They were married Sept 12, 1964 in Palisade, Colo. He wrote up research plans, did or supervised the research and wrote the results of the studies. He wrote environmental impact statements, management plans and many other reports which have been printed and published. He did not flaunt his education. Most people simply knew him as an easy going, fun loving and helpful man. He worked for the Utah State Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Division for 36 years. He was the regional fish manager when he "retired." He was working as a part-time deputy dep-uty sheriff for Daggett County as a "dam cop" at Flaming Gorge at the time of his death. Some of his other accomplishments accomplish-ments include being a weather observer, a S&W armorer, an EMT, and a highly trained rescuer res-cuer including high angle rescue and cold water diving. He was certified to use explosives, and was a certified hydrologist. He built muzzleloaders, once assisting as-sisting his scout troop to make them from kits. He was on the Governor's 20 for more than 20 years. He especially enjoyed taking tak-ing a novice or mediocre shooter and helping them refine their skills. He is responsible for the selective se-lective release structures being placed in Flaming Gorge Dam, he instigated year-round fishing, he coordinated many fish and game transplants between Colorado and Utah; he studied the lakes of the high Uintas and planted fish in many of them taking care not to endanger indigenous with predator fish or those who would dilute the gene pool. Chad did a lot of things and everything he did, he did with a whole heart. He always found time to do church work. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him, proving that you don't have to be perfect to be of great service. He had two stepsisters; a half-sister, Evelyn Corbit Johnson, John-son, a half-brother Mark Corbit (Yvonne) of Salt Lake City; a sister, Willadene Carter (Dale); and a brother, Thomas Crosby (Gayle) by adoption; and one full blooded brother, Clint Ivan Crosby of Eatonville, Wa. Chad has three children, (Thomas) Scott Crosby (Debbie) of Seward, Ark.; Chad Tyson Crosby of Soldotna, Ark.; and Holly Hacking (Paul) of Vernal. He has five grandchildren, Derek Scott (Kira), Chad Nickolas and Beau Tyson Crosby; McKenlie Hope and Christian Trey Crosby Hacking. They were the joy of his life. Chad was a loving father and husband when he had time he spent it doing activities with his family like shooting guns. Chad was preceded in death by his parents Nellie and Thomas Crosby; his biological father, B. W. Scott; both his parents-in-law, Lewis F. and Hazel May Mau-noury Mau-noury Huskey; a brother-in-law, Harry Earl Clark Jr. ; and a niece, Marina Huskey Lopez. Uintah Basin Applied 0 Vernal Rachel McCook Rachel Aura McCook, age 30, of Kamas, formerly of Vernal, died March 20, 2008 at the University Uni-versity of Utah Hospital. She was born Jan. 2, 1978 in Roosevelt to Stanford and Mary Gale Ankerpont McCook. She was raised by Nila Bowler. , Rachel worked as a hairdresser hair-dresser and cosmetologist. She was good at what ever she worked at. She had lots of friends everywhere every-where she went. She enjoyed being in the outdoors: skiing, camping, snowmobiling and traveling. trav-eling. She even did rock climbing for a time, and was on the high school flag team. She was good with kids. She graduated from Uintah High School in 1996. She is survived by companion compan-ion of five years, Jason Miller; adoptive mother, Nila Bowler, Vernal; brothers and sisters, Greg McCook, Whiterocks, Clarence (Shelly) McCook, Wisconsin; Stanley (Kelly Jo) McCook, Meeker, Colo.; Isaac McCook, Roosevelt; Randy (Barbara) (Bar-bara) Hughes, Vernal; and Kevin (Talon) Bowler, Vernal; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by biological father, Stanford McCook. Funeral services were Monday, Mon-day, March 24 at the Ashley LDS 1st Ward Chapel. He was born Nov. 20, 1919 in Manning, Texas to Robert Allen and Annie Lilie Barge Locke. Robert had many honorable accomplishments during the course of his life, he retired as a Major in the U.S. Army, during which time he was the recipient of the Silver Star awarded to him for his service in World War II and the Korean War. He also received the Bronze Star with cluster also awarded to him for his valiant efforts in WWII and the Korean War. During his service for his country he was also awarded the Purple Heart twice. When Robert retired he continued to serve through his community as a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner and in the BPOE, he also continued to help honor those who served this country as a member of the American Legion and VFW Robert is survived in death by wife, Doris Mae Locke; sons, Don-nie Don-nie and Michael Locke; daughters, daugh-ters, Debi (Ken) McAlpine, Lexi (Ed) Kittle and Becky (Steve) Whaley; brother, James Locke; sisters, Jewel Chatwell and Elo-ise Elo-ise Stowe; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A A Karen Montgomery Karen Christine Mitchell Montgomery, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully, peace-fully, early on the morning of March 20, 2008, after ayear long battle with cancer. Christine was born Aug. 21, 1945 in Heber to Perry and Mar-got Mar-got Mitchell of Midway. She was married to David L. Montgomery of Heber City in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on Sept. 11, 1964 and together they raised four sons. Christine was an active member mem-ber of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church callings and had a special affection for directing the war d choir. Music was a calming calm-ing influence in her life, and she could often be found playing the piano in order to clear her head. She also loved picnics, camping, growing flowers and reading. She worked at Department of Workforce Services for more than 24 years. She loved her job dearly, and she adored the people she worked with. Throughout this trying time they were always al-ways supportive and lifted her spirits often. Christine worked hard to serve her community by volunteering for various projects including Trees For Charity, the Annual Radio Auction, and in 2007, she was honored with the Veteran's Service Excellence Award.
