Show 4 Vernal Express Wednesday, June 21, 2000 I Obituaries Raymond Bullock Raymond Bullock Raymond Rulon Bullock, born June 23, 1918 in Lapoint. to Rulon Clayton and Letha Kump Bullock, died June 16. 2000 in Salt Lake City at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He married Lita Marie Simper on Oct. 2, 1948 in Vernal. They lived their entire lives in the Maeser area. The things Raymond loved best was roaming the hills and fishing. In his later life he loved going to garage sales and collecting antiques. Raymond served four years, four months and four days in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 749th tank battalion, going from Normandy through France, Belgium and Germany, covering 2200 miles in 196 days of continuous combat without relief. Raymond's tank battalion continues contin-ues to hold what is believed to be several all-time records for an armored unit. Upon his return from war, Raymond went to work for the U.S. Postal Service, and worked there for 27 years. Upon his retirement. retire-ment. Raymond and Lita began a new chapter in their lives and began hiking, camping and "hunting" "hunt-ing" wood, and enjoying their grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Raymond was a member of the LDS Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He is survived bv his long-life sweetheart, Ltta:-swis, Coy Ray (Charlotte). Brad (Rula) and Randy Bullock; daughters. Tanya and Kim (Mike): grandchildren. Anna Marie. Chad J., Erin Elizabeth. Jared Ray. Josie Nichole, Crystall Shae, Chaz Michael. Amanda and Cristy; and three great-grandsons, all of Vernal. He was preceded in death by his parents; a baby sister; two grandchildren, grand-children, Rachel and Mike; and his friend, Russell. Raymond's quick wit and friendly friend-ly way earned him many friends in life. He will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 21, 2000 at II a.m. at the Ashley Maeser LDS Chapel. 2575 N. 1500 W. MM-v 0QdIb0ilIi9 BoneBtlGQiCiE Mike Nielson Mike Nielson Mike Nielson, 48, of Vernal, died June 15. 2000. He was bom July 21, 1951 in Salt Lake City, to Accl and Stella Hardinger Nielson. Mike married Karleen Wilhelm on Feb. 3, 1997 in Vernal. Mike was a devoted father and grandfather; he loved his grandchildren grand-children dearly. He worked as a driller for Colorado Well Service and Union Drilling, and he really liked working work-ing in the oil fields. He enjoyed fishing, coaching baseball and cheating at cards. Mike had a really real-ly big heart and would always help anyone who was in need. We will miss you Mike, but we will let you is survived by his wife, Karleen, of Vernal; two daughters, Angela Myers of Rifle, Colo., and Christa Dickinson, Wyoming; two grandsons, Chance Myers and Aaron Dickson. Mike is also survived by his mother, Stella Nielson, of Vernal; two brothers and one sister, Randy (Kathy) Nielson of Vernal; Linda Hale, Salt Lake City and Kenneth (Susan) Nielson of Vernal; and numerous nephew s and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Acel Nielson. Funeral services were held Monday, June 19 in the Hullinger-Jolley Hullinger-Jolley Funeral Home with Wayne Spafford officiating. Wayne Spafford gave the invocation invoca-tion and Susan Nielson read , a poem titled "GoneJFishingi2t Sharon Willard sang "If Tomorrow Never Comes," and "Ghost Riders In The Sky." Speakers were Bill Brinkerhoff and Tom Brinkerhoff. Dwayne Humphries gave the benediction and dedicated the grave. Cathy Nielson read a poem at graveside titled "Miss Me, But Let Me Go." Pallbearers were Randy Nielson, Kenneth Nielson, Ron Nielson, Johnny Nielson, Charles Nielson and Adam Nielson. Interment was in the Maeser-Fairview Maeser-Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the Hullinger-Jolley Funeral Home. Marlin E. Pennington Marlin Eugene Pennington, 74, of Vernal, died on June 18, 2000 in the Uintah Basin Medical Center in Roosevelt. He was born Nov. 7, 1925 in Dora. Mo., to Claude and Laura Routh Pennington. He had worked for many years as the parts manager for Showalter Ford in Vemal. Marlin is survived by two daughters, daugh-ters, Rita Pennington and Sharon Pennington; and two sisters, Edith and Analee. He is also survived by his long-time friend. Jean McKenzie. ' V i Craig Harward E. Craig Harward Erwin Craig Harward, 53, died June 14, 2000 at his home in Orem from a sudden heart attack. Craig was born Sept. 7, 1946 in Provo, a son of Erwin Sharlend and Lois Harward. Craig was an Eagle Scout, a former for-mer member of the Utah National Guard, youth trainer, businessman, and a friend to all. He was an active member of the LDS Church w here he served in many positions. Among his favorites were scoutmaster, scout-master, youth Sunday School teacher and Gospel Doctrine teacher. Craig is survived by his wife, Phyllis Harward; sons, Terry Harward and Todd Harward; daughter, Trisha Larson; 12 grandchildren; grand-children; mother, Lois Harward; sisters, Sharee Larson and Nanette Carlile; and brother, Kent Harward of Vemal. Craig w ill be missed for his smiling, smil-ing, happy and cheerful countenance. counte-nance. He made new friends everywhere every-where he went. Fred Kutzler Fred Kutzler Fred Kutzler, 51, of Vemal, and formerly of Glendive, Mont, died on Thursday, June 8, 2000 from injuries sustained in a vehicular accident near Vemal. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 23, at Our Saviour Lutheran Church with Pastor Roger Sterle officiating. Interment was in the Dawson Memorial Cemetery in Glendive. Siivemale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements. arrange-ments. Fred was bom on Oct. 7, 1948 in Glendive, the son of George and Gladys (Smart) Kutzler. He was raised and educated in Glendive, and graduated from Dawson County High School. On Feb. 7, 1970, Fred married Mary Kaufman. Fred worked in construction for a few years and then worked in the oilfield for various companies. In 1979, he went to work for Signal OilfieldPennant Service Company and they moved to Sidney, Mont, in 1988 and to Vemal in 1994. Fred was the district manager with Pennant Service Company in Vemal, at the time of his death. Fred loved to hunt, fish and do wood working. He enjoyed attending attend-ing and watching rodeos and particularly par-ticularly enjoyed the bull riding and bareback events. Fred enjoyed spending quality time with his sons and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Mary Kutzler, of Vemal, Utah; three sons, TJ. Kutzler and his wife Lisa of Sidney, Montana, Jay D. Kutzler and his wife Shawna of Glendive and Loren Kutzler of Sidney; his mother and stepfather, Gladys and Ruthyn Mohl of Glendive; one brother. Kenny Kutzler and his wife Yvonne of Glendive; four grandchildren, Haylcy and Jared Kutzler of Sidney and Tyler and Jaden Kutzler of Glendive and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his father, George and his brother, Duane Kutzler. : : v,- Ryan Staley Ryan D. Staley Ryan Dee Staley, 33, of Vemal, passed away June 13, 2000 in Salt Lake City. A son of Earl Staley and Naomi Hatch, and step-mother Gerry Staley. Ryan was a mechanic and handyman. handy-man. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at Island Park with his family and friends. He is survived by sons, Trevor and Hod Staley; brother, Rodney Carl Staley; sister, Veronica Davis; parents; grandmother, Wanda Staley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services were held Friday, June 16, in the Vemal Memorial Park with Frank Thomson conducting. Jean Hatch offered the family prayer and Wanda Staley read a poem. Speaker was Sam Rants. LaDee Christensen and Scott Gardiner sang "A Bridge Over Troubled Water." Remarks were offered by Leon Richens. Enis Hatch dedicated the grave. Pallbearers were Clyde Eldridge, K.C. Jenkins Our dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend Edward Martin Jenkins, 80, returned home to his father in heaven heav-en and loved ones, June 17, 2000, from injuries received in a farming was bom Nov. 20, 1919 in Ballard to Samuel Archie and Tina Lucretia McCurdy Jenkins. He had 10 brothers and sisters. Ed married Thelma M. Perry in the Salt Lake Temple on Jan. 4, 1939. He was blessed with four great daughters. Ed was a honorary member of the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo, a member mem-ber of the Cattlemen's Association, an Elder in the LDS Church. In his earlier years he was a truck driver and drove the countryside, then he was able to stay doing what he loved, being a farmer and farming the land. Ed was a truly great man who would give service to anyone in need, or bend your ear in telling stories and poems or a coin trick. One of the last true cowboys, he will surely be missed. He is survived by his wife, Thelma M. Perry; daughters, Marjorie Jenkins and Kathleen Bowthorpe, all of Vemal; sister, Ada Curtis, Cooperton; brother. Dee Jenkins, Vemal; 11 grandchildren grandchil-dren and spouses; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, eight brothers and sisters; daughter, Connie LaRce Jenkins; and daughter, Joy Loraine Schroader. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m. in the Maeser Chapel, 2745 W. 1000 N. J ' Karl Reed Preece Karl Reed Preece, 79, loving and devoted, husband, father, and grandfather, died June 16, 2(XX) after a lengthy illness, in the Veterans Administration Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City. He was bom April 11. 1921 in Vemal, to Karl Banks and Leila McCoy Preece. He married Pearl McMechan on Jan. 28, 1950 in Phoenix, Ariz. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Mesa LDS Temple. Reed was an active member of the LDS Church, and had served in many various capacities, including; executive secretary. Elders Quorum presidency, MIA presidency, presiden-cy, High Priest group leader, served a two-year mission in the Provo Temple, and at the time of his death, he was serving in the Family History library in Vernal. Reed owned and operated Preece Auto Repair. He established that operation in 1958. He served in WWII as an aircraft mechanic servicing ser-vicing B-29 Bombers, and w as one of the first park rangers at Steinaker Lake State Park. Reed really loved hunting, fishing, camping, boating and life in general. gener-al. He always had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He currently has three grandchildren grandchil-dren serving missions that he is very proud of: Elder Rhett Preece in South Africa; Elder Rory Preece in Tucson, Ariz., and Sister Nikki Preece in Ecuador. Reed is survived by his wife. Pearl, of Vemal; children, Diane (Russ) Vemon, Don (Peggy) Preece, Bruce (Shalyn) Preece, and Gary (Becky) Preece, all of Vemal; and Gary (Becky) Preece, Layton; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Reed is also survived by two sisters, sis-ters, Karma Langton, Bountiful; and Leila Ruth Johnston; two brothers. Chuck Preece, Vemal: and Bruce Preece, Vancouver. Wash. Leland Allen Leland F. Allen Leland Floyd Allen, 86, passed away on June 16, 2000 in Vemal. Floyd was the son of Archie F. and Hazel Johnson Allen, bom Oct. 20, 1913 in Vemal. He married Birdie ElMay Witmer on May 23, 1938 in Vemal. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 5, 1964. Floyd owned and operated Allen Heating and Air Conditioning. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoyed square dancing and played the saxophone in a dance orchestra. He is survived by daughters, Fran Emery of Vemal; Linda (LaMont) Blackham, Moroni; Kathleen (Terry) Caldwell, Vernal; 11 grandchildren; grand-children; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Neva Bingham, Andre Williamson and Naomi Hanson. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; wife. Birdie; four brothers broth-ers and three sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Gertrude Bartlett Turner Funeral services for Gertrude Bartlett Turner, bom Jan. 22, 1914 and died June 10, 2000, were held Monday, June 19, in the Jensen Ward Chapel with Bishop H A. Gipson William Preston Gipson, 86, passed away June 17, 2000 at his home in Vemal, of a heart attack. William was bom Nov. 14. 1913 in Grainola. Okla., a son of Floyd and Mable Matthes Gipson. He married Marjorie A. Sheilds in 1947 in Nevada, she passed awav on Aug. 2. 1982. William retired from Swift & Company. He served in the United States Navy, a Veteran of World War II, and a life member of the American Legion. He enjoyed collecting col-lecting odds and ends, fishing and was a devoted father, grandfather and family man. William was a faithful worshipper of his church, never met anyone that he wouldn't help. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Judy Gibson, Venial; four grandchildren; Rhona Nance, Andrea Emery. Michele Gipson of southern California, and Brandi Snider, Ft. Smith, Ark. He was preceded in death by his w ife, Marjorie Gipson. Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 24. in Inglewood.
