Twenty-ton trucks hauled gravel to retiuild the roads from Evenston Wyo., to Camp Steiner which is approximately approx-imately a 50 -mils trip in each direction. direc-tion. The trip is the longest distance the unit has hauled gravel to for road work. Denis Winkler, who is with the Vernal Ver-nal unit said that the word Steiner means rock in German and that it was quite difficult to do the road. The engineers had to start from scratch in order to widen a foot path into a full fledged access road to the camp's archery ar-chery and rifle ranges 'and new waterfront. The road would have cost between $50,000 and $70,000 if it had been done by a private construction company. The Boy Scout troops had asked the state for assistance and Governor Office of Education, the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and listening listen-ing are being emphasized and fully in-tergrated in-tergrated into the ctual curriculum guidelines. Teachers attending from the Basin area included Donna Barton of Duchesne, James Epj of Daggett, Ilay Forsgren and Linda Kurtenbaeh of Uintah. In addition to rebuilding roads they also spent three days in field tactical exer Matheson, in turn, asked the Guard to do the road work. While at camp, the guardsmen began by dinning on C-rations, but were treated by the Boy Scouts to chicken and watermellons. In exchange ex-change for the food supplied by the Scouts the guardsmen donated their O rations to the Scouts. Winkler said the Scouts really loved dinning on the C-rations. C-rations. For their efforts at camp and their skills in combat manuovers the Vernal Price unit received a C-2 rating which is an excellent rating. The highest rating available is C-l.
