Obie Dean Taylor, age 76, formerly of Vernal, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006 in Grand Junction, Colo., at the home of his son, Wade. He was born in Rolfe, Iowa, the son of Wade and Maude (Campbell) Taylor. Obie married Joan Dowdy on August 8, 1974 in Roosevelt. He was a barber in Vernal for many years. Obie enjoyed talking talk-ing to people about the Bible's wonderful hope for the near future and sharing the tremendous tremen-dous love he had for his children, chil-dren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Banks passed away suddenly on Jan. 7, 2006 while recovering from hip surgery. Dorothy was born to Eugene Edward and Caroline Katherine Shirley on Dec. 31, 1913 in Salt Lake City Utah. She graduated from East High School on June 6, 1932 and went on to graduate from beauty beau-ty school. She was a practicing beautician for four years. On Oct. 29th, 1937, she married Harold M. "Bus" Banks and the couple made their home in Vernal, for almost 70 years. She was an active member of the Good Sam's Club, Ladies Woolgrowers Auxiliary and TheP.E.0. Sisterhood. Dorothy was a wonderful cook and hostess. Her greatest great-est joy was entertaining family fam-ily and friends alike. She continued con-tinued to prepare homemade delights such as pastries, candies can-dies and her world-famous pies, all while maintaining her yard and garden up until the end of her life. She is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn (Larry) Robertson of Gooding, Idaho, Janet Lesh of Vernal; four grandchildren, Susie (Nick) Dolieslager, James Robertson, Kathrine (Jason) Kunz, Heidi (Matt) Iverson; four great-great-grandchildren, Erin, Jace, Elaina, and Thora, sister-in-law, Barbara Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son Harold Ray, her brother Ray Shirley, her sister Elsie Storey and her son-in-law Ken Lesh. FOCUS Helen Vera Allen Larson Simmons Helen Vera Allen Larson Simmons died early Dec. 31, 2005, in the Uintah Care Center with her daughter Coene Bagley at her side. She was born May 30, 1920, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Thomas Edwin Allen and Minnie Alvina Petersen. She was one of the last living grandchildren of Ira Allen, IDS pioneer and colonizer colo-nizer of Hyrum, Utah. She spent her childhood on the family farm near Ucon, Idaho. In 1939, she married Harold L. Larson and lived in Rexburg, Idaho where she had her first daughter. They moved to Seattle, Wash, where her second daughter was born. Following their divorce she and her daughters moved to Ucon. In 1964, she married Grover J. Simmons and lived in Rigby, Idaho for the next 30 years. Grover preceded her in death. Due to declining health problems in 1998 she moved to Vernal, Utah to be closer to her daughter, Coene. She worked as an assistant librarian in Seattle. In Idaho Falls she was a clerk-bookkeeper at Standard Optical. She then worked at Smith's Chevrolet in the Parts Department where she monitored all the inventory. invento-ry. After retiring from Smith's she worked in the Rigby school lunch program, at a flower shop and a ceramic shop. She loved flowers and gardening. Nellie Mata Brewer Nellie Mata Brewer, age 87, passed away Jan. 9, 2006 in Vernal. Nellie was born Dec. 29, 1917 in Manila, Philippines to Fransisco and Marvada Leona Mata. Nellie lived in California, where she met her husband Frank Alan Brewer. They were married Dec. 28, 1968 and moved to Vernal, Utah. She worked with her husband, Frank, on the ranch mending fences. Nellie enjoyed crocheting crochet-ing and going to the mountains. Nellie is survived by her daughter, Willie Mendez, two sons, Epifanio M. Espinas and Arturo Espinas, 11 grandchildren grandchil-dren and many great-grandchildren. Betty Mae Brothers Betty Mae Brothers, age 78, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2006 at 2:15 p.m. She passed away listening to "Rain Drops Keep Falling on my Head." Betty's love for music took her through all the most difficult diffi-cult time in her life. Her death was from complications of end stage Alzheimer's. She had been a resident at the Basin Care and Rehab for the last year and half. She then spent the last few days of her life at her daughter's home in Vernal. Betty was born May 16, 1927 in Chariton, Iowa to James and Delia Leonard. Betty was an active member of the Lady's Aide (Derby Iowa), Garden Club (Derby, Iowa), and the Eagles Club (Chariton, Iowa). She moved to Utah to be close to her daughters. Betty loved God and nature. She was a faith filled member of the Catholic Church. Betty would often say, "How could you not believe in God when you look around at all the beauty." beau-ty." Betty loved music, dancing, bowling, nature, crafts, baking and last but not least people. She made many people smile; she was a very giving person. She survived many losses and disappointments in her lifetime. She also battled many trials and remained strong and determined. After a long battle with many illnesses including Alzheimer's her death will remove her from pain. She will be laid to rest beside he late husband R.P. She was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in various callings. Her greatest satisfaction was attending the Idaho Falls Temple and serving a mission to the Washington, DC Temple. She sought to learn and live the Gospel of Jesus Christ Her parents, 1 sister, 7 brothers, broth-ers, a stepson, a stepdaughter, stepdaugh-ter, and a grandson preceded her in death. Her survivors include a brother, Lenard B. (Mildred) Allen, Everett, Washington: daughters Coene (Dean ) Bagley, LaPoint, Utah and Teresa (A. Paul) Jenkins, Pocatello, Idaho; stepdaughter stepdaugh-ter Carta Zinkan, Pingree, Idaho; stepson, Steve (LuAnne) Simmons, Pocatello, Idaho; 13 grandchildren, 14 step grandchildren, grand-children, 36 great grandchildren, grandchil-dren, and 26 step great grandchildren. grand-children. A viewing was held Thursday, Jan. 5, at the Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary in Vernal, Utah from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Rigby Third Ward, 364 North 4100 East, Rigby, Idaho.
