Lorna Wenta was assigned as director of special events for the publicity committee. Kenneth Struhs was appointed boundary chairman. The Kearns Branch of the Salt Lake County library will have available for the public books on Community Development. These books will help give the public a better idea of the program, and an insight as to what can be acomplished by this program. The next meeting of the steering committee will be held July 27, at the home of Joan Johnson, 4924 So. 4300 West. Magna Opens Bids On Water Project Bids from twelve construction firms were opened last Tuesday by the Magna Water Company for extensions of main lines, construction of a pump house and electrical work in the system. Estimated cost on the total project will be $375,000. The bids were opened at the Magna Fire Hall, according to Arthur Marsh, chairman of the board of trustees. The board met Monday night to survey the bids, at which time contracts were awarded. Number 28 Kearns Lions to Assign Chairmen A meeting of the Kearns Lions Club was held Tuesday, July 14th, at which time committee chairmen were assigned for the divisions of health and welfare, and etc. The Lions Club of Kearns and all other organizations who helped to raise funds for the junior high band uniforms are to be commended for their efforts. The Jr. High Band gave a good showing for the Founders Day parade in their striking black and cream colored uniforms. But these uniforms are not as yet fully paid for. Over $1,200 has been paid on the uniforms, with the additional amount planned to be raised within the next four to five months. When a project is planned to raise the additional amount, remember how well they appeared in the parade and support them fully. Kearns JC's Attend Planning Session Members of the Kearns Junior Chamber of Commerce attended the State Planning session for the JCs that was held at the University of Utah last Saturday. A proposal was brought up at the meeting concerning the location of foster homes for children from the County Child Welfare dept. The proposal was accepted by the planning session to adopt the program as a JCs project, but it will have to be taken to the state executive board and then brought up before the state quarterly conference of the JCs before an measures or steps can or will be taken by the JCs toward such a project. The main project of the state JCs will be that of Community Development, similar to that now being organized in Kearns. A board meeting of the Kearns Jr. Chamber of Commerce was held at the home of Darr Haward, Tuesday evening. The members of the Christian Youth Fellowship of the Granger Community Church are planning an ice cream social to be held Saturday, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the church house. Proceeds will be used to send boys and girls to the CYF training camp of the church, the first two weeks in August. Each group will attend one week. The camp, called Cathedral Pines, is located 12 miles northwest of Sun Valley, Idaho. A family camp, August 2 will follow the youth camp and interested families are asked to call the Rev.
