Show LIFE B2 Explosions and loud noises: a guide to the 4th of July There are plenty of events this upcoming Fourth of July; let's help you choose something with explosions Cameron Simek Life Editor @skabomb So, the week is upon us. We sit in silent reflection, thinking back to a time when our ancestors were forced to fight for their freedom. As a flag dances patriotically on the wind, thousands of hearts around the country are moved in unison to the sounds of the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. Or not. The things we all enjoy about the holiday are the fireworks. Huge colorful explosions filling the sky with beautiful designs and sounds we all know and love so much. The Fourth holds many wonderful events to enjoy; mostly involving filling the night sky with fantastic blasts set to contemporary and classical music. If you're spending the holiday in Provo, one thing to look forward to on the day is Stadium of Fire. -1 • -ajg WARNING • SHOOTS FLAMING BALLS JSE ONLY MR CLOSE ADULT SUPERVISION FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY DO NOT WO Pi KANO • -4 vf R HAVE ANY PART OF YDuR ROOY OVER THE DEVICE WHEN UGH114 ne FUSE- UGHT FUSE AND GET AWAY.NEVER RELIGHT A PuSE THAT FAILS TO IGNITE_ THkaniX_PLACE UPRIGHT AND • P^ LEVEL WWACE Two ITEM MAY TIP OYER USE ONLY ON CONCRETE A r P' ALT OR OTK SERIOUS NJURT COULD RESULT SuPPr r USED ON GAASS OR C • If you're spending the holiday in Provo one thing to look forward to on the Fourth is the Stadium of Fire. The yearly concert brings many musicians to the valley to entertain us for the day until it's time for the real show. It's all part of Provo's "America's Freedom Festival." The festival also includes a parade and a "Freedom Run," in 10K, 5K and one-mile distances. You won't want to miss it. But if you have to miss it, there are plenty of other activities happening all around, and they're fairly hard to miss. CAMERON SIMEK/UVU REVIEW see FIREWORKS B3 Fireworks are essential for a proper celebration, as nothing says freedom like explosions. Fresh fun at the Provo farmers' market Provo's local farmers market makes Saturday mornings worth getting up early Laura Fox Photo Editor applecomb@gmail.com Saturday morning Provo is bustling with weekend shoppers, summer students and families, all enjoying the first warm days of the summer months. At Pioneer Park the water fountains are on and crowded with soaking wet kids, wild with excitement and uncertainty of where the next fountain of cool water will rise up—and if they can catch it. The sidewalks of the park are lined with white tarps, and the smell of freshly made food from the numerous mini kitchens flow through the air. Conflicting the appetites are a pizza truck—where they make their own sauce and toppings with fresh herbs and cheeses—along with stands serving tamales, salsa, waffles, fresh bread, and tacos just to name a few. There are also many vendors with fresh garden herbs, organic eggs, spring vegetables, and early fruits like cherries plucked from the trees in their yard. As the season progresses so will the abundance of fresh locally grown produce. Some booths have vegetable starts ready to plant in the garden, sparking even the brownest of thumbs to give gardening a try. When visiting the Provo Farmers Market, the best parking is located directly across the street east of Pioneer Park in the Covey Center parking. There is a crossing guard to help with the busy street on Fifth West. Other vendors display crafts such as bright cotton purses, scarves, glassware, hair accessories, stained glass, and even a princess themed booth. Some booths invite customers to try new things. see PROVO B4 JAY JAMES JONAH SETH FRANCO HILL ROGEN BARUCHEL MCBRIDE THEIISEND warn MICHAEL CERA mo EMMA WATSON •• ,: Si • -1' ■F:I, A - ENDING SUMMER 2013 LAURA FOX/UVU REVIEW Seriously, if you are OK with R-rated movies, go see this one. You should see This is The End This movie is funny, scary and just a fantastic flick Cameron Simek Life Editor @skabomb LAURA FOX/UVU REVIEW There's always plenty to see, do and eat at the Farmers Market, so don't miss it. Before we begin, it's important to note that this movie is not The World's End, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, which is the other end of the world movie premiering this summer. It seems like a deal was struck between these two films as the previews included an extended trailer for one of the films. On to the review. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, well-known for the films Superbad and Pineapple Express, have done it again. They have crafted a very funny film that audiences are sure to enjoy. Audiences that don't mind a lot of swearing and some graphic humor, that is. see APOCALYPSE 83 |
