Show B4 Welc ome new faculjo At the beginning of the fall semester, 110 new faculty members joined the campus academics. In an effort to help students acquaint themselves with these new professors, brief bios and photos were collected for publication. Because of the large amount of new professors, only a hand- ful could be printed at a time. The first batch appeared in the Sept. 19 issue of the Review. Now, here are the next batch of new faculty members. LIFE MARITZA SOTOMAYOR .1 ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, FINANCE AND ECONOMICS JAMES BEMEL Hometown: Lima, Peru ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, COMMUNITY HEALTH Teaching since: 1990 Reasons for coming to UVU: Hometown: Originally born in Alaska, raised in Spokane, Washington Teaching since: Seven years My husband's job (Viola, Utah Symphony & Opera) brought us to Salt Lake City while I was finishing my Ph.D. dissertation; we like it here and when I got my degree I looked at UVU as a growing higher education institution where I could resume my research on Latin America's economy issues. Reasons for coming to UVU: I was hired last year as a temporary instructor in this department and was retained for the full-time position this year. I originally came to UVU because of the student-friendly atmosphere and heavy emphasis on teaching. RUSSELL HOPKINSON ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, AVIATION REBEKAH FREED : '0. Hometown: Provo, UT ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE Teaching since: I have been involved in aviation flight and ground instruction in aircraft and in aerospace education for 19 years. The last four years I have been teaching Air Force ROTC courses for BYU and UVU students. I am a current member of the UVU Aviation Science Department advisory/endowment board. Hometown: Redondo Beach, California Teaching since: Reasons for coming to UVU: Postsecondary, three years, taught in early childhood education for seven years. Reasons for coming to UVU: Moved to Salt Lake City a year ago after graduating with my Masters because my fiancé at the time was going to University of Utah. We got married this past July. We love the environment here and how easy it was to get established in a new state. Everyone is very welcoming! I wanted to teach at UVU because it reminded me of the colleges I went to. I love teaching and I love Psychology. I have had a long-term goal to become part of UVU's aviation program from the time it was conceived. While flying in the Air Force, I knew that I needed to be part of UVU's aviation community. After I retired from the Air Force in October 2010, I pursued and obtained a position with UVU. I am honored and lucky to be part of this ever-expanding flight program at this ever-expanding university. CLASSIFIEDS OK ill 0 HELP WANTED New Fall Jobs!! Models, Actors, Extras. Earn up to $169 hr.
