The play features a number of monologues from a variety of women, each monologue in some way relating to the vagina, whether through sex, love, rape, menstruation, masturbation, or other ways. It is the cornerstone for V-day (V standing for valentine, victory and vagina), an international program designed to raise awareness and money to end all forms of violence toward women. V-day was started by Vagina Monologues author Eve Ensler. Not too late to enter Ethics and Values essay contest controversy, those who organize and participated in the play, as well as many audience members, are very supportive of the play's production. "I am honored to be a part of such an important production. The Vagina Monologues helps other women be more open when they talk about their own bodies, which I think is especially, needed in Utah County," said Andelin. "Lots of people have misconceptions about the monologues, but I think those in attendance, both men 5I7 S. 123D W. Orem. Bethany Williams News Writer This year marks the 20th anniversary of a feature unique to UVSC among Utah colleges: the Ethics and Values course. To mark the occasion, the Ethics program is holding an essay competition. UVSC's Ethics program is nationally recognized, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities. It is estimated that in 20 years, 50,000 students have taken the course. Dr, Elaine Englehardt is a philosophy professor at UVSC. She says of the Eth- ics and Values course, "The purpose of this class is not to teach a specific skill, but rather to help create individuals of a distinctive kind-people who think critically...and who care about and strive to do what is morally right." She and the other teachers of the course want to know how well they have succeeded. Entries to the competition are asked to be around 1000 words in length and to address the ways in which this class has affected the student's life. Cash prizes of $150, $125, $100, and $50 will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th .ESTABLISHED True love Never Wilts k Delicate porcelain roses, just in time for Valentines LOSEE Jewelers IH.
