Pointed Remark) From Provident Woodruff A I.iii((e dumber of the Apostle Address the Congregation of Nalnts. There were present at the general Conference of the Church of Jesus Saints which Christ of Latter-da- y on Friday, of the opened at Salt Lake Woodruff and Presidency, Wilford of Council of the George Q. Cannon; the Twelve Apostles, Lorenzo Snow, Franklin D. Richards, Moses Thatcher, Francis M. Lyman, John Henry Smith. Heber J. Grant, John W. Taylor, Mariner W. Merrill, Anton II. Lund and Abraham H. Cannon; of Counselors to the Twelve, John W. Young and Daniel II. Wells; Patriarch, John Smith; of the Presiding Council of the Seventies, Henry Ilerriman, Jacob Gates, Seymour B. Young, John Morgan and B. II. Roberts, of the Presiding Bishopric, William B. Preston, R T. Barton and John R. Winder. The first speaker was President Woodruff, who said in substance 3!xty years ago last Sabbath this Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-da- y Saints was organized in Fayette, Seneca county, Hew York, by Joseph Smith. I feel that onr hearts should be filled this morning with gratitude that we have the privilege again of meeting in a annual Conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-daSaints. The Lord has chosen the weak things of the world from the foundation of the earth, to perform Ilis work in every age and generation. We want to bear in mind that our strength, our hope and our power is in the hands God and not in men. The Lord Himself has stretched forth his hand to establish this Church, Ills Kingdom, His Work, His Zion, the gathering together of Ills people in fulfilment of the revelations of God which have been given to the inhabitants of the earth since the foundation of the world, since the day of the Patriarch, Father Adam, was brought forth and placed in the garden of Eden. From that day until now. Ills work has been performed by tbe inspiration of Almighty God, and not by the power of man. The very things in our history that we have been called to pass through, the scense which have been enacted, have shown and they show to day that this is the work of God. I have never read anywhere, that I know of, of the same power manifested in any dispensation to the children of men which was manifested to the y prophet of God in the organization of this church. In its organization the Prophet of God was administered to by the angels of Heaven. They were his teachers and all that they did, from the commencement to the day of his martvdrom, was by the revelation of Jesut Christ. We ought to undersand this, and as a people have faith in God, in Ilis revelfitions, in Ilis promises. We should look forth for fulfilment of these promises unto us in the day and generation in which we live. Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe in Jesus Christ, believe in the gospel which has been preached to us, and keep and fulfil tbe commandments of God, and then all will be right. Saints will but do If the Latter-da- y their duty, there is nothing in the way of our accomplishing all that has been promised to us. I have no fears myself with regard to the optcome and final triumph of the Kingdom of God: With regard to those who may address us during this Conference, I hope that they may all have our prayers, that they may be inspired by the Spirit of God, and preach only those things which are true and faithful.
