I know the majority of those who work on this project both for River Gas and the contractors who arc involved in this endeavor Mr Atwood isn't employed by RGU or Nelco Construction the local company building (he sites roads gas and water lines and doing the reclamation for the project Maybe he is employed by some other company that is involved It might even be possible lhat he just supports it because he understands the benefits of having another industry in the area I also recognize the benefits of this project The reason I was so appalled by this waste of in the Eagle is I am an employee of my father's company Nelco Construction I know what really goes in on the desert behind the fairgrounds Because of my position with the company I know the men who make the decisions at River Gas Whether you can comprehend it or not they arc also concerned about the wildlife environment and the people who live in Carbon County They do all they can to find local businesses to do the work The only time a company or individual is hired from out of the area is when there isn't anyone locally who is qualified for a special job There arc about 2(X) people from Carbon and Emery Counties who arc employed by three of four local companies lhat owe (heir jobs to this project Two new businesses have moved to Price to accomnMHlate gas exploration One of these now has accounts with several mines in the area (Why are you tun whining about the mining industry? Probably because you won't score any brownie points for that) Having grown up and spent time riding horses and ATVs (heaven forbid!) in the affected area I have seen the vv ildlfe before and alter and in some instances the numbers of certain species have increased There hasn't been a noticeable difference in the number of elk and deer that use the area Of course I'm not a wildlife biologist what do I know? I've only seen it I've also seen the first drill site This test site has been reclaimed already The only evidence that there was any disturbance is the fact that there is more vegetation growing in the reclaimed area than the surrounding area You haven't even been ink there to sec the land you are so worried about have you? You also haven't seen the finished wells cither I don't think Erica Kardelis has seen the system used by RGl' either The electric pump motors are extremely quiet and all of the pump jack are painted a natural color that is custom mixed for use in this area Since I have seen and heard these pumps I'll go ahead and tell you what you can expect to see Very little if you aren't specifically looking lor a site Curtis Icard should know this lie doesn't live ton far away from the project By the way Kardelis seems to underestimate the financial benefits ol the initial construction there aren't ton many construction jobs that will last several years I have SO families you can ask about financial benefits In fact I owe my tuition for this year and next year and the next year to my professors whose names are job in (he gas field! Tuition that pays professors like you and other I have I CEU and none of you receive in Iruin s editorial and Anderson Fortunately graduated logluud printed any part of my tuition I don't want to sound as il i don't care for my surroundings As a plmtographer I enjoy (he natural landscape I feel it is more than most giNki to use our natural resources responsibly No environment should people probably be abused There are regulations to govern industry so that we don't lose our precious habitats Such situations must be approached cautiously but not with paranoia This area thrives on industries such as these Other types would be appreciated hut this is what goes on here If you don't like Garth Frandsen spa-exc- use me-art- icle anti-grow- th ave!
