If so you have ex victim The negative of self-in- pcrienccd a The time is almost here to dose the door on the 1992-9- 3 school flicted victimization is similar to the little boy who cried wolf after so year and my what a year it has been! The Rodney King trials were many false cries society turns its head and doesn't lake victimization sc- for the time second the Koiesh smith was cult blown to complctcd riously The results are Rodney King incidents on a broader scale We crccMi Clinton beat Bush Hillary is ascending up the First Lady lad watched 82 seconds of video tape and still questioned whether or not der and CEU has elected a new student government to be tormented by King was at fault fortunately some justice was found with King eager editorialists Yet with all of these things in constant change Others are not so lucky there remains one Rape victims are a good example of innocent victims We all know I am devoting this editorial to those who I refer to as the "victim that rape in all forms exist but the actual reported rapes are much lower club" Qualifications for this club are really quite lax Are you a than they should be It is a sad fact that many rape victims arc afraid to under privileged ignored and crying soul? If you answered come forward due to the threat of humiliation that would result if no picked-o- n yes then you are automatically a member The "victim club” is an or one believed thus the victims lock away their experience and carry the gamzation that specializes in stroking each other's egos until you can't extra burden This could be avoided if the victims would g anything out of 11 anymore and you advance to the second level learn to cope with the stresses of their lives as opposed to putting their which is vindictiveness This club seems a bit but when stress on someone else's shoulders the modern at victim victimization of vs we see it re- - The lookmg concept victim" is quite a dichotomy when looking phrase 0111 there to the definition of "victim" and it is this dichotomy that allows for best way to examine the concept of victim vs victimization is such persons to become vindictive Vindictiveness stems from one's to first determine the definition of a victim The American Hcnlagfi ability to act like a victim while victimizing others This is done by Dictionary defines victim as "to bring harm to" however this making friends with authority figures families and friends by the per- deflnition has become ineffective in that members of the victim club son who socks revenge Ely doing this victimization occurs through claim harm from anything and anyone Therefore I am going to set up rumors lies slander etc The harm comes from changed perceptions a criteria as to what is and what is not a victim victim gets sympa- by loved ones The result is that the First a victim must be attacked or insulted by another individual or thy and praise when in truth he or she deserves ostricization individuals who have the intent to bring psychological or physical harm History and cliches prove this situation true Many of the great lead-t- o the victim Next a victim must be innocent And finally the vie- - era fell at the hands of their closest friends While we use terms such as lim should be helpless in the circumstance of victimization traitor to describe these individuals the examination of their peraonali- Now with that out of the way there are basically two types of vie ties show than playing the role of a victim "Your best Urns: and those who meet the afore criteria or "innocent friend is you worst enemy” so someone said and Lyndon B Johnson victims" Unfortunately for many of us we come into the most contact proved that true in the JFK assassination Bcnidict Arnold proved it true with those who are in the US and Ronald Reagan got a taste of it in the victims scan- victims arc those who tend to have the "poor me" alii- - dal Friends betray friends to get ahead tude without a just cause Many of your friends probably fall into this So where does it leave the innocent victims? The answer is out in the cold We all want attention and praise but how far should we go to category For instance have you ever had someone constantly com- plain about how fat they are and wear a size three? Or someone always (cont on page 8) constant-victimizati- self-inflict- sidc-cflcc- is ed on self-inflict- ed far-fetch- ed "self-inflict- ed self-inflict-ed self-inflict-ed self-inflict- ed self-inflict- Iran-Cont- ra ed Self-inflict- ed CEU asks for censorship Criticizing the critics: school and court on down had affirmed Courts from the US supreme college public students’ First Amendment rights Administrators could never again legally treat their students like mere children or even worse pawns in public relations campaigns aimed at wealthy donors " by Tristy Atwood opinion writer The “Eagle" staff has been receiving pressure to censor some of its sticks this year The recent proposed constitutional amendment to the ASCEU constitution that would put student government in control of the newspaper to the avid concerns from the faculty and administration about its content and the reflection that some of its articles have on the image of CEU The newspaper has been a source of controversy and stress on many of the college affiliates What has happened to our first amendment right to freedom of the press? In numerous cases school officials and administrators have been forbidden to censor expression which they dislike and have been constantly reminded that they are not the ‘Unrestrained masters of what they create" having no power to tell a student what 1970 thoughts to communicate” Anionelli Courts down from the Supreme Court case Tinker v Dei Moines Community School DisarlctriaAc constitutional rights applicable to college smdents In Court the Popish v University of Missouri Curatorss the Supreme Wayne Overbeck S Thomas Pasque ruled in favor of a student dismissed from school for a political cartoon considered obscene by the school faculty but not by the court or the Miller standards The Miller standen are the mechanism set up to determine whether or not certain material is obscene After last week's letter to the editor concerning the baseball coaches there was some question as to the ethicality of printing something without signature It was a decision made to protect the student from any unwarranted backlash As long as the name of the student is known to the staff it is perfectly legal to print iL The article turned out to be quiet controversial but just because it was does not justify not printing the article The £a!e prides itself on being an open forum for education as well as student opinion If one does not agree with materials printed in The Eagle letters to editor are always welcomed When I heard reports of faculty requests to limit what is discussed in the paper it makes me furious As students adults in the society in which we we have the right to (Continued on page 8) self-expressi- qifalbuTjBli Letter to editor Dear Editor Each student who lives on camdormitories pus in the is forced by their choice of housing to purchase a meal plan An arrangement which seems like a great idea on the surface but taking a closer look at the meal plan from a students point of view There arc three plans to chose from the 10 Hand 19 meal plans These three seem to offer meals to accommodate the needs of every student concerned This however is not the case With the cost of the meal plan exceeding that of housing considerably one would expect the food to be worth the average $450 per meal but this is no way near the way it is I realize this $450 allows the student to eat all that is desired but when one docs not find the food to appealing not much is eaten I very seldom go back for seconds For $4 JO a student could eat handsomely at any establishment in Price and have a meal they would want to caL Even with a meal plan I find that I must supplement my diet on a daily basis with store bought goods or what have you This is a hardship to any poor college student who has already paid big bucks for food I understand it is difficult to prepare food to feed a large number of people everyday but is it really that difficult to make the food at least somewhat appealing? If a meal is not a very good one and docs not get eaten it is usually seen for days following It may take on additions or be included in a new entree but the overall end result is the same: it does not get eaten and students go hungry 1 strongly believe that if the quality of the food was improved so would the attitudes of the students We as students are customers of the college The cafeteria could be considered a restaurant If it were a restaurant anywhere else 1 believe it would have gone under by now The cost of living in the dorms is not that bad and I feel that I get my money's worth As far ai the cafeteria goes 1 feel I am being robbed The cafeteria were ita restaurant would not receive my business 1 came to college hoping to gain some weight from all that great cafeteria food I was going to eat All 1 have gained an extreme hatred for cafeteria food In turn I have lost weight as well as my desire to eat aU together If asked about the CEU cafeteria I win have to respond negatively and I will stress that if you go to CEU do not go for the food Signed Jamison Brown non-cooki- ng |
