September is a very good beginning for the official season of fall This is when school generally starts for us and we have many memories of going to school in the mornings when the air is crisp and cool Many friendships start at this time of the year and last forever Next is the month of October A very eventful and exciting Tuesday November 18 IMS GOLDEN EAGLE month This is when leaves are raked up from all over the yard and burned making quite an event You can even now smell the smoke drifting towards you with its musty and weedy odor Do you even remember running in the park with the leaves crackling and crunching under your footsteps making you feel so Halloween good and carefree? also comes at the end of this month bringing the month of October to a grand finale is November a transition month It goes from late fall to early winter The earth at this time is restful and relaxed She is very subdued with her reds golds and browns Yes the earth is getting ready for a winter sleep and she prepares herself Dr John W Tucker Our President Dr John W Tucker president of CEU is a scholar in the field of philosophy He received his MA degree at Arizona State University He received his doctor- ate at Harvard But what about Dr Tucker other than his scholarly assets? What docs he enjoy doing most? He stated he gained the greatest satisfaction from teaching He feels that if he has been an influence to one student no matter how small that influence then he has accomplished something Dr Tucker desires a closer relationship between teacher and student He also enjoys and gains satisfaction from administering the college He enjoys spending his leisure time playing golf swimming and reading He also enjoys spending time with his family The sport from a participant standpoint that he enjoys most is golf Number one on his spectator's list was watching the CEU Golden Eagles basketball team in action Dr Tucker enjoyed this because of the personal contact he has with the team He also likes to spend Saturday afternoon watching TV fixitball Watching his own children in competitive with quiet dignity and grace so that you will think she is going to stay dressed as Autumn only to wake up one morning and see her dressed in a brilliant suit of white The past week saw changes in New Dorm policy The Housing Committee set up visiting hours on a trial basis Saturdays from 2 to 6 and Sundays from 2 to 9 were chosen and voted on by the (form residents and were set up as times in which both floors were open to either sex The weekend passed without incidents although a good many boys didn't know about tlx change until they heard girls in the hall This new freedom of movement was found to be refreshing and residents did not attempt to abuse the privilege Friends shared glances at each others' rooms and did a litt'e studying together in a much quieter atmosphere than the lounge provides This action was a gesture of confidence on the part of the Housing Committee and hopefully the recipients will be grateful enough to cooperate It presents a good opportunity for students to show how responsible they are and make the dorms fell a little more like home swimming events is also a favorite Dr Tucker stated that “satisfaction with what you are doing has to come from within if you are to influence the lives of pea-p'-e toward what you really think is good and beautiful then it is it is the really worthwhile one or two individuals that yo" reach that makes it a’l seen worthwhile" Dr Tucker takes time frr- -i his busy schedule to offer classes in philosophy and social ethics Although these classes are taught at 7 am it is well worth the extra effort to take one of them Much can be gained and you may never again have a chance to be taught by such a learned man Marine Captain to Visit CEU MCOSO Fort Douglas Sept arine aptain Michael Moss wi'l visit the College of Eastern Utah on 29 November it was announced by the Officer Selection Officer here The purpose of the visit is to select college students and graduates for officer training in the U S Marine Corps |
