Union offi cials said that the company had learned from its recent experience in the seven other cities, that A. R. T. A. meant what it said when it demanded union recognition and contracts. Agreements following strikes on the job were reached in St. Louis, Detroit, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Buffalo and Milwaukee. In some cities the stoppage took the form of a "meeting called by the blowing of a whistle, at which signal all operations were stopped. The contracts won recognition of the union as the sole bargaining agency in all cases, and straightened out many local grievances.
